In this groundbreaking book, Patrick Lambe shows how they play an integral role in helping organizations coordinate and communicate effectively. Through a series of case studies, he demonstrates the range of ways in which taxonomies can help organizations to leverage and articulate their knowledge. A step-by-step guide in the book to running a taxonomy project is full of practical advice for knowledge managers and business owners alike. Key Features Written in a clear, accessible style, demystifying the jargon surrounding taxonomies Case studies give real world examples of taxonomies in use Step-by-step guides take the reader through the key stages in a taxonomy project Decision-making frameworks and example questionnaires Clear description of how taxonomies relate to technology applications. 5.0 out of 5 stars A book with many facets, 5 Nov 2007
By Øyvind Marius Brande-lien (Oslo, Norway) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book to get some input on methodology around taxonomy and to get the terminology sorted out. The book delivers! It is a book that can be read as a introduction to taxonomy, as a book for methodology for creating taxonomy, as a book for selling the idea of taxonomy to descission makers and a book to get ideas for how to improve your project/application.

Highly recommended and an easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Combines theory and practice in an acessible way, 1 Oct 2008
By B. Warsop (West Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book provides an accessible introduction to the conceptual frameworks as well as practical guidance on how to use them. I am very glad that I chose this one from the plethora of books on the subject. I bought "Everything is Miscellanous" at the same time which is anecdotal with very little that's solid to grab hold of.

Lambe is both an experienced consultant and an academic, and this book is both practical and theoretical. He doesn't seem to have been paid by the word, either, so the book is both shorter and easier to read than I expected, which is a mercy.

Highly recommended, if you can cope with the price.
