Have to say I disagree with the idea this is a poor book. A lack of pretty pictures a poor academic text does not make.....
I have found it a helpful starting point for linking together disparate viewpoints in what is a complex and often contentious area. A number of organisational theories are compared and contrasted, and what is particularly handy is the extensive bibliographies provided at the end of each chapter.
Whether for undergrad or postgrad work (the latter for which I found it a handy jumping off point into other areas), I recommend it.
I have found it a helpful starting point for linking together disparate viewpoints in what is a complex and often contentious area. A number of organisational theories are compared and contrasted, and what is particularly handy is the extensive bibliographies provided at the end of each chapter.
Whether for undergrad or postgrad work (the latter for which I found it a handy jumping off point into other areas), I recommend it.

As a PhD in my first year, this book is a great help understanding the puzzling of organization theories in a very easy, clear, simple way. It is a book that will stay a guideline for all my future researches in the field of organization and management

Fantastic book. Would thoroughly recommend it. In a fluent and benign writing style, Hatch unfolds the disparate perspectives on organisational theory, whilst successfully arguing her case for a more symbolic interpretivist perspective.
