This book assumes you have more than a basic grasp of Chemistry. I used it after reading most of 'Organic Chemistry for Dummies I' first and having only revised GCSE Chemistry (over 10 years since I studied it so I was essentially learning all over again) a month before with just a few pages of A level and I was able to understand it - that gives you an idea of exactly what kind of "Dummy" this book is aimed for. What this book emphasises, and rightly so, is that retaining knowledge comes from practice, and this is excellent at it. It gives you a brief overview of topics with usually two examples, before letting you loose on some practice questions. The overview is, more often than not, sufficient to allow you attempt the questions.

What is deeply frustrating however is that the book is full of errors. You will work through a question, check your answer to find you got it wrong and only then notice that the example given in the answer description does not match the one in the question. I suppose this is only a minor issue but it does get annoying as there seem to be so many of them, and you can't help but wonder what else is wrong in the book.

With proper editing this could easily get 5/5.

This book does require a reasonable level of prior knowledge, but the short descriptions are excellent for getting you back up to speed on the topic. There are plenty of questions to work through, all of which are presented in a logical scale of increasing difficulty.

If you are taking a medical type course and they are teaching the chemistry at too fast a pace for you, BUY THIS BOOK! It is essential, I would be screwed without it! Best book I ever bought.
