Wanting to be original, Rattle has changed tempi and paces, making a "relecture" of this much appreciated, loved work. No need for that, especially no need for these poor, pretentious, preposterous results. Soft passages are too soft, so that loud ones roar if one has listended to the soft ones at a barely normal hearing level. Tempi are even worse; slow ones are lengthened to bore and, most of all, quick tempi are hastened so much that they are often simply ridiculous, like it's too late and they want to rush up and get home. For my taste, any version, no matter how cheap, with unknown orchestra and conductor is surely better than this one. I simply couldn't make all the way through it, not even half of it.
