I feel well qualified to review this item as I have previously owned two other wake up lamps from other manufacturers. The first was a Naf Naf lamp
Naf Naf LYS V3 Lamp With Digital Progressive Clock Radio - SilverThis was a gift, so not of my own choosing. It was horrible to use (not very intuitive) easy to knock over (not good first thing in the morning) and completely failed after just one year.
The next unit I purchased recently (although not from Amazon). It was easy to use and looked good, but after a week one of the plastic buttons fell off, so back to the shop it went.
I thought I would try the Oregon Scientific as I have owned previous products from this brand and they have proved reliable. This is therefore (hopefully) a case of third time lucky. Here's the low down:-
The good
The instructions easy to understand.
The buttons are well placed/logical.
I like the infra red feature - wave your hand in front of the clock to snooze.
The lamp quickly fades up/down when you switch it on/off... which has a nice classy feel.
The bad
There are only two brightness settings for the display... and the dimmest option is still quite bright.
The radio reception is not brilliant, but OK for a standard FM clock radio I suppose (NB. it is not a DAB radio).
I have the unit placed on a smooth surface (bedside cabinet)... when you push a button, the whole thing slides across the top... it really requires two hands to use.
The buttons feel a little cheap and plasticky.
The ugly
I have had to reset the unit twice as the light failed to come on. I do not yet trust this lamp enough to use it as my sole alarm clock.
It is nice to use in conjunction with another alarm clock though.
