***AVOID THIS DEVICE YOU CANNOT BUY REPLACEMENT EXTERNAL SENSORS ANY MORE***
So I bought this sensor in January 2012 and it worked very well until October this year when the external sensor (THGN 500 - model discontinued) stopped functioning. I think that was due to water ingress which might have been due to where I put it. I don't hold Oregon responsible for that but I do hold them responsible for failing to support a 10 month old product with a proper range of spare parts and terrible customer support.
The problem is thus: the supplied external sensor (THGN 500) is a single channel sensor which the display is clearly designed to show the data for in the top most field - i.e. the large figures that are much clearer to read. The THGN 500 does not have a selectable channel, ie it only works on one channel on the frequency, if you don't know the channel or cant select it on another device you cannot replicate its functionality properly.
Oregon have repeatedly told me i can buy more THGN 132 sensors (you can have up to 3) but that is because they have three selectable channels and will display in three other data fields on the display. They do not seem to realise, or maybe they don't care, that the top most display is now redundant. I have exchanged a number of emails with Oregon but they simply fail to see the problem, as, from their point of view i can still use three sensors, pity that none of them will display in the large section of the display which you can read across the room without problem.
I had another Oregon Scientific weather station prior to this for around 7 years which was good. I will not be replacing this device with another Oregon product, as I simply dont trust them to support the products properly any more.
