Product Description

It is not wise to try to hold a camera whilst you are jumping out of a plane. Or skiing down a mountain. Or climbing the Grand Canyon. But, naturally, if you are doing those things you will, somehow, want to capture the moment. Action Camera is your answer. It is a tough, no-nonsense digital movie camera that attaches easily to a helmet, mast, harness, or handlebars. It has a 640x480 VGA CMOS sensor to record your incredible footage with incredible quality. You can then playback your adrenaline-fuelled antics on your PC or TV, or upload them to MySpace or YouTube. And if that is not enough, it also has an in-built SD card slot, so you can boost the existing 32MB of on-board memory up to 2GB. Ah yes, it's water, dirt, rain, snow and shock proof too. Now, be off with you. Haven't you got a cliff face to scale?

I bought this for the water resistant properties. I use it for white water kayaking and have attached it to my helmet with one of the many accessories you get with it. It takes 1 hour high quality footage with a 2Gb SD card. The sound quality is very poor. You cant even make out your own voice even when its on you. It is at the point of being a silent movie. I really dont need it for the sound so thats not a problem. I did contact the manufacturer about this who advised me this is how it should be. The video quality is poor in dull light conditions. For the best quality video use it in a sunny day. I hit it off a rock once under water and it never even dented it. Still working and making excellent videos.

What a buy!! As a serving soldier I brought this for operations and exercise, the footage so far has convinced the regiment to buy one (and the army is tight!! LOL) The only let down is the sound quality, but its easy enough to put a decent track to what footage you have taken. I'm taking this to Afghanistan this week and can't wait.

Well worth the money, what ever you intend on using it for. Easy to set up, and very user friendly when it comes to viewing files. A 1GB card will give you 53 mins at medium setting at 30fps. which is more than good enough! VERY HAPPY with cam and all the straps, so far have used on on my helmet and underslung on my rifle. If you want a cam to capture any exploit you may undertake, this is it (even tried it in the troop bar!!)

I went on holiday during the Xmas break and it was snowing where I was. Obviously I came prepared with jacket, hat, gloves etc. I was a bit concerned about turning my ATC-2K cam on and off though. I didn't want to take my gloves off just to do that. Turned out fine though, I just listened for the beeping noise it makes for on and off. Also, the manual says to use a heat pouch it sells, or is planning on selling, in cold weather along with lithium batteries. At times the temp was below freezing and my cam worked fine without either! There was one time when it was a bit slow though so I took out the batts and held them in my hand for a minute to warm them up. It went back to its normal speed after that. It's a plug and play cam so no need to use a CD to install, just the USB cord. The video quality obviously isn't as good as a normal video camera but that's expected as it's designed for extreme sports. It's also a handy size, fits into my pocket easily and only needs 2 AA batts.

I ordered the camera last week and got it this week. It was about 7-8 days waiting. Not bad considering I used super saver delivery and got it delivered for free.
I think the video quality is quite good - much better that my sony ericssons video quality. But I'm giving 4 stars because the microphone and its location isn't that good. The microphone is under that cap which protects the camera from water. So without it sound is loud enough but not clear - worse than in my sony ericsons case, but with the cap on it's so quiet - you can hardly hear anything. In the manual it shows the microphone is under the camera but it's not true - the microphone is somewhere on the back.
But I'm still very satisfied with video quality.

this is a very usefull piece of kit even though its only a low res cmos camera, if it was a 1/3 ccd then it would be 10x more costly.
cmos means low res. low quality video in low light conditions, although in stood still filming in daylight it would be excellent.also you need to remember its taking 15 to 30 frames per second of capture thats like cctv video and so the faster you are going the lower the quality.
so you do have to take into consideration any movement by whatever means of whatever the camera is attached to will cause the finished video to be of lower quality, set the camera into high res mpeg and install max size sd card of 2gb and you should get medium to good results, not advisable to film at night unless its in well lit conditions or on the streets lit by mercury lights. sonn or sodium lights are not so good.
if you are considering buying anything of this nature? do your homework 1st, read all the write ups prior to purchase then you wont be dissapointed with its outcome,
i have used this type of camera b4 and i am conversant with its capabillities. i would have no reservations on buying or reccomending this camera to anyone wanting to buy as long as you read what i have said and also do your homework 1st.
go back 5 yrs and this unit wasn't even on the market to buy. now its here and it can only get better.

I've had this camera for just over a year and I haven't had any major problems with it. The screen is very small and hard to read but that's to be expected really when considering the size and rigidity of the thing.

The only minor problems I've had is that I attached it ti my leg whilst snowboarding and it came loose of it's mooring, thankfully I noticed and I think this may have been because the mounting had some snow in it and stopped it clicking in completely. The other problem was that is kept cutting out but this was because of the temperature (-10C) affecting the battery. They do offer a cold weather jacket for the camera somewhere.

The footage is great if you're using it for a youtube movie or something similar but not amazing if you're going to display it on a TV. Good value for money though.
