Readers Reviews:

"With strong, believable characters this book has the feel of an Ian Rankin novel. A great page turner that will keep you hooked until the end."

"The storyline was gripping and kept me turning the pages. As a fan of the genre I was not disappointment with this at all. Excellent first novel!! "

"I was then surprised to hear that this was this authors first novel and all i can say is my hat is off to him and i hope he writes more in the future."

"If you thought TV anchors were shallow, self-centered personalities, this book will confirm that for you. A fun, sometimes gruesome read that often rings true-to-life. Highly recommended."

From the Author

My desire to write Ordinary Monsters came from a fascination in watching the media descend on a murder scene and place the Police under enormous pressure, often leading to the wrong man being arrested.

The pressure on the press to produce a story is, it would seem, now almost as great as the pressure on the police to find the killer, the two becoming entwined in a self-destructive tangle. I wanted to say something about this situation.

The first novel from Paul Ekert centres around the media frenzy that descends on Rallow New Town after a horrific murder takes place there. It follows Jon Baptist as he reports on the crime and the police that are hunting for the murderer.

Baptist has spectacularly fallen from grace and is given an assignment that a junior reporter could have done. The reporter is down on his luck, smoking and drinking too much and he desperately needs a break to redeem himself with the studio bosses. It looks like that break has come when first he gets a tipoff about a possible story at a funeral and then stumbles across the possible identity of the murderer. Despite Baptist being a loathsome character you can't help feeling that things will turn out good for him.

Fast paced with the story switching between the reporter's and police's search for the killer this book will keep you wanting to know what happens next. With strong, believable characters this book has the feel of an Ian Rankin novel. A great page turner that will keep you hooked until the end.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and i am glad i took their advice and bought it as it is a great read it is well paced and the author has a great 'no holds barred' writing style and does not shy away from content which i found to be a change to some authors in this genre.

I was then surprised to hear that this was this authors first novel and all i can say is my hat is off to him and i hope he writes more in the future.
