Product Description

The third instalment of Jack Whyte’s templar trilogy.

The Order - a secret society of men from ancient, noble families, drawn together to safeguard the Christian Church's most precious secrets - has been decimated by a King's petulant will. Its members are being persecuted and most have been forced to flee for their lives as their leaders are burnt at the stake.

But the Order's secrets must continue to be protected and hidden; so as their world falls apart, the dangerous task of smuggling the sacred treasure out from under the nose of a vengeful king falls to just a few brave men.

About the Author

Jack Whyte was born and raised in Scotland, and educated in England and France. He migrated to Canada from the UK, in 1967, as a teacher of High School English, but he only taught for a year before starting to work as a professional singer, musician, actor and entertainer. In the early 1970s, Whyte researched, wrote, directed and appeared in a one man show based on the life and times of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet.
Whyte's interest in the history of Britain springs from his early Classical education in Scotland during the 1950s, and he has pursued his fascination with those times ever since. Whyte is married, with five adult children, and lives in British Columbia, Canada.

Slightly chaotic 2 Sep 2010
By Chris L TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
As the title says I found this book slightly all over the place - I will explain. I have been a fan of Jack Whyte and was looking forward to reading it when I ordered it from Amazon. I had found the previous two books to have a tight, fast paced, action packed and well thought out plot. This however, despite an excellent start and superb scene setting on the Isle of Arran where they end up (I know Arran well as I sail in the area a lot and it was great to imagine the Templars landing in the bays I have sailed to!) it seems to finish 'too quickly'. I know that sounds odd considering the amount of pages that the book is but it almost seemed that the author decided that he had written enough pages and wanted to finish it. The slow but measured pace of much of the book ended with a rushed rounding up of loose ends. Personally I think he would have been better to have extended it and writted another book exploring the 'Merica' concept in more detail and expanding on the scottish battle/historical sequences. In short a very good book especially for those who had read the previous two but disappointing by the authors own high standards he had previously set.

I have always been a Jack Whyte fan ever since I picked up one of his paperbacks in a drug store (ironically) on a visit to Kelowna and Penticton in British Colombia, Canada. I have read all of the A Dream Of Eagles and The Golden Eagle series four times, never tiring of reading them at all. Knowing all too well and visiting the places twice a year in South West England, and Cumbria where the books are set gives them that extra special magical quality.

Alas, when the first two of The Templar Trilogy were published I was bitterly dissapointed and could not believe that Jack had written these books as personally I did not think they contained the same thrill and passion that Jack normally brings to the reader. I litterally had to force myself to finish the books but I did out of dedication to Jack.

However, I found that reading Order In Chaos gave me the same enjoyment and wanting not to put the book down as does the A Dream Of Eagles and The Golden Eagle series. For me it captivated my attention and made me not want to put the book down. Maybe because unlike the other two books in the Templar trilogy there is a great storyline.

If you are a Jack Whyte novice, then I would suggest that you read all of Jack's books from The Skystone to Order In Chaos in sequence. For me it's the only way to introduce the novice reader to the enjoyment of Jack Whytes writings.

What a dire book! 6 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
I borrowed this book from the library hoping for a rip roaring historical adventure along the lines of Bernard Cornwell etc. What I got was a long and slow dirge of a book which had a pseuudo historical plot line along the lines of the now old hat conspiracy theories like the Da Vinci Code and the Holy Blood & the Holy Grail etc .... but they do it better!!!!!

All the way through I was waiting for the climax set around the battle of Bannock Burn but it was nowhere to be seen. And the love story between Will and the Baroness, with her thoughtful asides written in italics so that the reader knew they weren't being spoken, was completely unbelievable and pointless.

As a fan of historical adventures, I would not recommend this book to anyone!

Order in Chaos
Not as much action as thee previous two books in the trilogy but a good read just the same. The personal struggles of the hero within himself keep you interested all the way.

A very good read, but as they say this is fiction. So don't believe everything you read.
All 3 in this series are worth reading, best to start at no one though.
