HMS Glamorgan was in the thick of the fighting throughout the war. Her role for most of the time was that of an expendable escort and she became the only ship to survive an Exocet hit. There is a detailed account of the successful deception plan, Operation Tornado, and, unusually, the impact of the war on the families left at home. While attacking the enemy, Glamorgan faced missiles, bombs, shells and rockets. Personal accounts recall these attacks, and other operations including the Pebble Island raid. All the Exocet attacks on the Battle Group are included, culminating with the desperate fight to save the ship, which came perilously close to sinking. The aftermath and the traumatic stress experienced by those who lost shipmates brings home the gruesome reality of war. This is an excellent description of Glamorgan's involvement in the Falklands conflict and how she survived a hit from an Exocet missile. Ss well as describing the activities on and around the ship during the conflict it also describes the efects on the families left at home, as well as the problems caused by post traumatic stress on the surviving members of her ships company. It is based on personal accounts written at the time of the war, and portrays quite vividly the events of 1982. Lots of excellent photos as well. Well worth getting hold of!

my dad served on this ship during the war and he says that even he didn't know all that was going on, what he did find weird was reading a book when you knew what the outcome was. He has just returned from the Falklands after unveiling a memorial to his shipmates that paid the ultimate sacrifice, I read this book and now know why my dad feels like he does sometimes when we watch or see things that remind him of the horrors of war. An excellent insight into war at sea.

As a retired sailor from the US Navy who has served on destroyers during the time of this story I wondered what modern warfare at sea was really like, this book tells that story. I alway wanted to know how modern electronic and weapon systems would really fare during a prolong battle at sea. What is was like at sea with the onset of winter and the toll it takes on men and ships.This book takes you on that journey at sea and what it was like day to day on a destroyer fighting not only the elements but the enemy during the Falklands War. Inskip does a very good job with this book and telling the story of the only ship to survive an Exocet missile attack. A must have for any Naval bookshelf.

Outstanding account of warfare and survival
