As a complete novice with no knowledge of the growing of orchids I found this little book full of understandable information and advice. The book gives you a great deal of information about orchids and their families, followed by the purchasing and the right position to grow them, their care all year round, mistakes in care, pests and deseases through to propagation. The final section covers the most popular orchids (probably the easier to buy and grow) and the care and growing of them. Most books I have read on orchids I have found them to be intimidating and hard to read, without the basic knowledge this little book has given me. The book has clearly presented photographs and line drawings which bring the information to life. In all a great find for me, as I now wonder why I never took on what I had seen as a difficult hobby many years ago. It is now my bible.

The small size of this book is quite surprising. Nevertheless it has beautiful photos plus clear and understandable pictures. It is an 'easy-to-read' book. It covers many of the essential things about growing orchids: the orchid family, buying orchids and of course, caring for them. Light, watering and fertilising are all covered, and temperatures are both in Fahrenheits and Celsius degrees. My favorite part of the book is when it clearly states that which orchid is suitable for north/east/west/south window altho it only mentions some of the "popular" orchids. The books minus point is the size and lack of pages/too little information. I would highly recommend Henry Jaworsky's "Orchids simplified" for beginning orchid growers. "Ortho's all about orchids" is also a good book.
