Product Description

Accolades from the likes of NME, Kerrang! Rock Sound and Metal
Hammer and much airplay from the Radio 1 Rock Show and Punk Show and the
XFM Rock Show herald the release of "Orchestra of Wolves". As a DIY
hardcore band, it was an interesting juxtaposition. But with their feet in
the underground and their eyes looking towards bigger things Gallows proved
themselves more than ready to make that leap. Others agreed and in January
2007 they became the smallest UK band to grace the cover of Kerrang! in
many years.

Following a now legendary UK headline tour in March that climaxed with a
night of sheer chaos at the 100 Club.

Includes the single `Abandon Ship' and second disc of sessions and
previously unreleased tracks

Gallows have been labelled a "screamo " band and while I have absolutely no idea what that really means I presume it refers to the way the vocalist errr attacks the songs for in no way could what vocalist Frank Carter does be described as singing. Some will state he shouts rather than screams in which case I'd hate to hear the bloke scream .His vocal chords sound like they have being shredded by razor wire as it is. Get him screaming and his oesophagus will probably explode in a garish cloud of tattered gristle and steaming blood.
Gallows are a five piece hailing from Watford that look like they spend all day snarling at passers by in between nipping into the tattoo parlour and have become the centre of an astonishing bidding war between major record labels who obviously think that this brand of uncompromising hell for leather guitar assault is the next big thing. Warner's won the battle and have celebrated by re-releasing the bands debut album along with nine track bonus CD , three songs which don't appear on the album proper. I'd need convincing anyone would want to listen to that after the quite extraordinary ferocity displayed on Orchestra Of Wolves , this is an album that not only takes no prisoners but sticks their heads on spikes and dances in their steaming entrails.
Some will class it as punk rock , but is punk an attitude or a musical genre or a diffuse mix of both ? If it's a genre then this is unlike any punk I have heard and I include the more extreme bands that gestated from that movement. Gallows sustained ferociousness moves beyond any of that into the sort of sheer relentless attack of hardcore/speed core and bands like Minor Threat or Black Flag whose song "Nervous Breakdown" they cover on the extra CD .

Gallows are a hardcore band from Watford, UK who only formed in 2005, and their debut 'Orchestra Of Wolves' is a breath of fresh air. A stunning album with such classics as the title track & 'In The Belly Of A Shark'. The most important rock/punk album for many years (probably since Queens Of The Stone Age - 'Rated R'), which has breathed new life into the punk genre. Get the 2 disc edition as there are 6 stunning live in session tracks & 4 studio tracks including the AWESOME Black Heart Queen & a hidden track - a cover of the Ruts 'Staring At The Rude Boys'. If you like your music loud with lots of balls, then this is the album for you. BUY IT NOW!

I don't normally listen to shouty hardcore music, I quite like the more intellegent socialy responsible end of the punk spectrum, it turns out I have something in my DNA that makes me want to test the structural stability of my house and the patience of my neighbors playing the incredible Gallows album F****** loud, It's a bit scary but it's also realy genuine and positive. If you want another reason to respect Gallows other than this great album watch their videos on youtube and myspace or if you can take the exitement see them live (I'll probably be in bed). I think this band are going to be BIG and that's because they have worked hard and are focused on what they do. Consequently this album is F**(sorry it's infectious)Great and deserves a big five stars plus another five for the extra disc which unlike most bands bonus material is equally brilliant and definately essential for your neighbors enjoyment

despite the album orchestra of wolves only landing on the shelves of stores 9 months prior to this, the need to reissue it with bonus cd certainly seemed like an idea too far,but when you consider that the bonus cd contains 6 of the albums tracks as recorded live in the bbc,and two brand new tracks and a lovely jubbly cover version of black flags 'nervous breakdown' and a hidden bonus track then maybe this isnt a concieved effort to rip more cash out of our trembling wallets,in fact it seems like a good idea and it is.
Well the 12 track album that takes up disc one is stonking, hardcore in places yes,but not limited too, this is manic and fast and jagged rock as well with a serious pulse.
The album is chocked full of wee anthems from the watford punks, filled with heartfelt screams and shouts and franks vunerable clean vocals, and gang vocals as well all chasing along with riffs and hard crashing drumming. The band also incorporate subtle use of piano, organ and dare my ears decieve me,banjo, there is a hillbilly, rock n roll feel every now and then.
The album basically has no filler bar a one minute instrumental,so a 4.5 rating may well be justified. My fave tracks for those who must know are 'abandon ship','rolling with the punches''will someone shoot that fxxking snake' (great title) and the albums closer 'orchestra of wolves'.
The bonus cd doesnt hurt, great rapid versions of some tracks here, the bonus tracks are great and the cover is belter,so all in all a fine release from a very exciting band, very exciting indeed.

After all the hype I checked the album out. My first response was resignation. Resignation to the droll cliché of punk in 2007/8. I tried to like it but I listen to too much punk for this to excite me. I laid back and listened a few times but nothing roused me. It isn't bad - some of it would be ok if it didn't remind me of a retrogression to the horrible English hardcore bands of the 1980's.
There's no politics here. No existentialism. No situationist slogans. Or nihilism even. Actually, there's not really much angst either, despite the aggressive delivery. There's no humour, just irony. There's no swagger: punk was always rock n roll. They seem to have the attitude of some of the more public US punk/hardcore bands, which is 'we have nothing to say so let's burn ourselves out screaming "fire!"'.
For some reason they remind me of the Exploited.
I don't know but I would guess these guys are from the suburbs and liked to practice in the semi-detached-with-garage.
I would recommend listening to the Bronx.
