Product Description

Product Description

"Insey Winsey spider climbs up the spout..." Pick your bright, friendly plastic spider and set up your jigged drainpipe to play this fun game based on the popular children's nursery rhyme. There are two ways to play the game; one uses a number die and can help your child's counting skills, while the other uses a shape die and helps with shape recognition. The die will determine where the spider must move to on the board, and the spinner is used after each turn to show either sunshine or a raincloud. The aim is to get your spider home to it's web at the top of the drainpipe before the spinner points to the raincloud. A sudden shower of rain will wash the poor spider all the way back down to the bottom of the drainpipe. Children will love playing with these colourful plastic spiders, and the game is made of sturdy, recycled board which can be wiped clean. The boards are double-sided, with the shape game printed on one side and the counting game on the other, and an educational guide printed on the box shows how the game can contribute to your child's education. This best-selling and award-winning game is suitable for 2 to 4 players, aged between 3 and 6.

I bought this game for my 4 year old who has just started school. Its a great little game, very durable, bright colours, really easy to play. It doesn't take long to finish, but it is great for learning numbers and shapes and puts a real smile on my little one's face!!! I really recommend it. It's so simple to use and accessible for those as young as 3/4. I would also recommend it for special needs children too. My 10 year old has special needs and he plays it too, so its great for the whole family!!!

It is a great game for introducing your child to the concept of board games-throwing a dice, moving counters on the board. It is 2 games & it reinforces shapes. You have the added interest of staying on the space you land on or having to go back down the drain pipe.My 3 1/2 year old Evan loves it and it keeps his attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spidertastic! 30 Aug 2008
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My son started playing this game when he was quite young, about two and a quarter, and more than six months later its still his favourite game. I think that it was easy for him to catch on to because he loved the insey winsey spider rhyme. Maybe its a boy thing, but he also liked the idea of spiders. This game taught him the fundamentals of turn-taking. It's also great because it has both a spinner and a dice and seems less linear than other toddler games - fate decides who wins, and that takes the bite out of losing. What's more, unlike the many other games with card systems that teach kids basic counting, this game has lovable little spider characters that travel up and down the boards. My son is always blue spider... this is a fantastically fun game for the very young!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Most Exciting Orchard Toy Game 9 Feb 2011
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Bought this for my 3 year old triplets as they love the insey winsey spider rhyme and we already have the shopping list game from orchard toys which they love playing. There are 2 games - a number version (which is quicker) or a shape version which are good teaching them to count/shapes. You make your way up the drainpipe by throwing the dice and then you've to spin an arrow to see what the weather is. This is where it can get really irritating and they start to lose interest when the game goes on and on when everyone keeps getting put back to the beginning when they spin the counter to see if its sunny (stay where you are on the drainpipe) or rainy (start again - yawn!) Sometimes its a relief when someone finally makes it home! Its quite good for a short time and they like the plastic spiders but I would recommend the shopping list game by Orchard which they love and play for much longer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for little ones 13 Sep 2008
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My 3 year old loves this; the arbitrary nature of who wins or loses depending on whether the spinner says it's raining or sunny is good fun too. My five year old finds it harder to accept a rainy outcome when she's nearly at the top of the spout - but it does teach following the rules which is an important skill. Glad we bought it, both children get very excited about playing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun - she loves it 1 Jan 2011

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My little one is nearly 3 and was given this for Christmas. I can vouch for its durability as our game was pre-owned by my niece and nephew, and it seems fine.

It's a big hit - it has been requested at least 4 times a day over the holidays! She loves the whole concept of sitting down together and taking turns, and each having a board and a spider, and she loves shaking the dice and spinning the spinner. Unfortunately she doesn't like keeping her spider in the right place; her spider tends to go for a little wander during other people's turns :-) She also tends to help whoever is losing by moving their spider up a bit...! I think she'll probably start to get the hang of the counting and grasp that the point is to get to the top of the drain pipe over the next couple of months.

I would recommend for this age-group, but I'd guess it will only appeal until they can manage something like snakes and ladders. Although those spiders are rather cute!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as other Orchard Toys games..... 10 May 2008
By BM
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a big fan of the Orchard Toys range of games - educational and fun. However this is my least favourite because it has such little scope. Basically the aim is to get your spider up the 10 rungs of the drainpipe by throwing a dice and moving the correct number of spaces. Then, after moving your spider, you spin the weather wheel to see whether it's sunny - in which case your spider remains where it is - or raining - in which case it gets washed down to the bottom of the drainpipe and you have to start again. The wheel is designed to that you are more likely to get sunny weather than rainy weather. However this often means that the game is literally over within a couple of minutes. They'll still (aged 3.5 and 5 now) play it every now and then and they will get 10 minutes of enjoyment from it - but it definitely (in my opinion) isn't worth buying. There are far better games out there.

Four different spiders in red, blue, green and yellow. Four separate spout boards in matching colours one side with shapes, one side plain, to climb up. Two dice, one with numbers and one with shapes. A weather spinner to flick to see whether it's sunny or rainy... This game is a lot of fun! I thought it would be a bit contrived; it was the first Orchard Games board game we bought. Somehow their clever people have designed a fun game around a nursery rhyme that actually works and is great for teaching counting, shapes, taking turns, colours, how to lose, how to win... Good game and I have bought several for friends' children age 3 too.
