Product Description

Product Description

These crazy pirates are getting up to all sorts of mischief in this funny, action-packed puzzle. Suitable for ages 6 to 9, there are 100 pieces to put together, to produce a finished picture of approximately 42cms x 51.5cms. This is one of our more challenging puzzles, and its unusual shape means there are no straight edge pieces to help you. Children will feel a sense of achievement when they can complete the puzzle. There's a great deal of detail in the illustration, with lots going on and plenty to laugh at and talk about once you have completed the puzzle. You can ask your child to look for various items: Can you spot a feather duster? Where can you see a cobweb? What animal is in the rowing boat? What number is printed on the football shirt? You can also help with their counting skills; how many socks are hanging out to dry? How many bones can you see on the flags? How many sharks are in the water? How many animals can you see? By talking about the picture, children can increase their vocabulary skills, and can make up little stories about the different scenarios going on within it. Printed on strong, durable board, this will be a popular and rewarding puzzle for many years.

I bought this puzzle as a Christmas gift for a nearly 5 year old boy who loves pirates! He was thrilled with it, and did it straight away with a bit of help from his mum. Second time he did it on his own and he was patient for 45 minutes while doing it! Pieces are very good, nicely shaped, not to small, not too big, colors are bright and beautiful and picture is so full of details, you can talk about it a lot when finished. I would recommend it to everyone! Excellent puzzle for an excellent price!

The 5 year old to whom I gave this puzzle really loves it, although he complained the first time he did it, that the puzzle didn't have straight edges! The picture is great fun, and the pieces are durable. Subject matter especially popular with small boys, and - a really important point - a good strong box which it easily fits into when dismantled!

I bought this about thirty months ago for our first daughter
when she was three and a half. My second daughter has just
discovered the puzzle and I realised I hadn't reviewed it, so
I thought I'd do it now.

It is a great puzzle; both my daughters have a fascination with
pirates and this was / is just the job. There is so much going
on, both on and around the ship, that each time it comes out of
its box there's always something to talk and laugh about.

The age guide (I think) is pretty meaningless; my first daughter
could do this with a little bit of help at 3 1/2; my second daughter
needs more help, but still really enjoys the puzzle.

The print quality is great, the quality and thickness of the card
has stood the test of time (with a bit of "don't force it" etc. from
me) and I particularly like the wavy outline of the puzzle, 1: because
it goes with the nautical theme, and 2: because the children can't
just zoom in on the flat edges and get the frame in first (which is
what we usually do!).

So; if you've a 3+ year old who likes puzzles and pirates, do give this
your consideration.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Hal Marshall TOP 100 REVIEWER on 5 Aug. 2013
This evening I had the very great pleasure of refereeing my two little relatives (aged 8 and 5) as they tackled this jigsaw 'as a team'. They've had it for about a year now. I know that for a fact, because it was me that bought it for them. I also know that the combination of a four year old who was then only just starting out in the world of jigsaws, plus a seven year old who was intent on sticking every piece in before her sister even knew what day it was proved a somewhat combustible combination. I knew that the eldest puzzler had been very happily doing this on her own over this past year but the two girls had not, so far as I was aware, attemped it together since 'That Time Last Year'; And 'That Time Last Year' was not pretty, really it wasn't.

This is a really nice jigsaw, very bright in colour and with an extremely dynamic design. It may have left the factory with delusions of being a 'shaped floor puzzle', but around here it takes its chances on a table-top like every other jigsaw. We're talking about a finished article that measures 42 cm by 51.5 cm, so why it should ever have been putting on any of these 'floor puzzle' airs and graces I'm not quite sure. The individual pieces are large and very sturdy and the curved aspect to the edge pieces gives this puzzle an extra element of the mysterious. The bits don't all fit together perfectly, in that they don't all match up to their neighbours the way most jigsaw pieces would do, but that simply makes for a greater test.

I was intrigued by the advice on the back of the box, which very enthusiastically suggests ways in which an adult may share the thrill of generally being in the same room as this jigsaw with the child or children concerned.

My children are 3 and 6 years old, they love doing this puzzle; however, it is essential that I 'help' them with doing this as it is to many pieces for them to do on their own. I don't 'take over' and insert pieces for them; however, I often have to find pieces that I know will fit and offer it to them and tell them to find where to put this next one.

They have many years of 'growth' still available in this puzzle.

As for all Orchard jigsaw puzzles, the pieces are strong and robust.

There is so much more to this than a jigsaw. My boys loved looking at the pictures as when you look closely these pirates are doing some funny things. A great alternative to action toys for 4-7 year old boys

a fun puzzle. my four year old has no problem in doing this and as there is so much detail, it is fun to spot different details each time.

Had to return this item as I bought it after reading the other review saying it was suitable for a 3 year old. It's not; the box says 6-9 - perhaps the reviewer meant to write about Orchard Toys The Jolly Roger Puzzle which has fewer and larger pieces, and I have now ordered. Looks fun though!
