Choose one of the cheerful characters and make up the matching rescue vehicle. This box contains 6 play characters and 6 simple puzzles, each made up of just 2 or 3 pieces. The characters are each in charge of a bright, cheerful rescue vehicle; there is a lifeboat, an ambulance, a recovery truck, a fire engine, a police helicopter and a mountain rescue jeep. The simple shapes and bright, bold colours make it a perfect introduction to jigsaws for very young children, aged 2 and over. The youngest children can be given the puzzle pieces for just one vehicle at a time, but as they get more confident, they will enjoy sorting out which pieces belong to which puzzle. Once the jigsaws have been completed, children can have great fun making up different scenarios for the vehicles and their drivers. The puzzles can also stimulate conversation; why does the fireman have to wear a special helmet? What number is written on the side of the lifeboat? Which vehicles have sirens? We bought this jigsaw set a few years ago when our son was about 2 years old. It was his first jigsaw puzzle. He loved playing with it repeatedly. It captured his attention with its transport theme. The pieces were nice and chunky to make holding and bringing together easy. And because the puzzles are only two or three pieces each a child can quickly get that sense of achievement of seeing the finished picture. As he got older he began asking questions about what each vehicle did.
I would very much recommend this puzzle for young boys and I am returning to this product to buy this as a present for my nephew.
In general, I find most Orchard Toys products well thought out and innovative.

My son 20 month old son LOVES this. He easily manages the three piece puzzles and has for a few weeks now. His tutor (for developmental reasons as he was born at 23wks) thinks this is ideal for his progression and is really impressed. The puzzle its self was such good value for money as it comes out at least twice a day - once the puzzle is done - its a good focal point for conversation too.

Fun little puzzle
