Product Description

Product Description

A simple game based on 'lotto' which will help children learn to tell the time. It is suitable for children aged 5 to 9, and for 2 to 4 players. Each player chooses a game board while all the cards are placed face-down on the table. Players take it in turns to pick a card from the table and must say the time out loud. The other players have to try to match the time with one of the fun and familiar activities illustrated on their game board. What time do you eat ice cream? When do you ride a bike? What time do you go on a school trip? Helps children to learn both analogue and digital times, concentrating on 15 minute increments - 'quarter past', 'half past', 'quarter to' and 'o'clock'. It can also be played just using the pictures for very young children. The attractive illustrations can be used to develop many further topics of conversation. The game's play value can be extended by using in conjunction with the Penguin Clock Face. The game helps with maths and literacy skills, and an educational guide on the back of the box shows how the game contributes to your child's education. The game is made with sturdy, durable, wipe-clean board. All Orchard Toys games are developed and designed by our own in-house team, and are tested by local playgroup and junior school children to ensure they are having fun as well as learning.

Manufacturer's Description

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I usually love orchard games. I have several and they are great fun. But very disappointed with this one. The title implies it helps with telling the time but it doesn't. In schools time is taught via the quarter and half hour and most importantly o'clock. This game however refers to 7.00am or 8.30pm which is completely different. It's also possible to play the game without any reference to telling the time by just matching the picture on the card to the picture on the board so children don't have to tell the time at all and it becomes just a normal lotto game. It would be lovely to see a game which actually deals with telling the time in a way that children would learn. My bright five year old played this with me and is none the wiser about telling the time

I got this to help my 6 year old learn to tell the time. She loves it and so does her 4 year old sister - it is easy to make it accessible to everyone. A really good introduction to learning to tell the time - I wouldn't get it for a child who already can, but it's ideal for one who hasn't learnt yet. Highly recommended. My kids have loved every Orchard Toys game they have played and this is no exception. They are all fun and educational.

This game is fun for learning to tell the time. Each player has a lotto type board with funny time related activities to collect. Quite simple to play and because there are pictures you don't have to be able to tell the time to play it.

The game board and the indiviual cards both show the times so it becomes a matching game with little for the children to work out. Read more

Not the best aid for learning to tell the time!
I just don't think that this is the best tool for trying to teach a child the time. It is more about understanding the order of the day. Read more

Daughter learnt to tell the time in half an hour. :)
Bought this about a year ago but only started to use it/play with it about 4 months ago, with my then 4-year old daughter. It taught her to tell the time. Read more

tell the time
Good game, easy to use, not as much educational value as had hoped but fun to play.

One to get out every so often
I bought this for my 4 year old, even though he can't tell the time yet. He knows his numbers, and recognises 7 oclock. He's starting to understand half past the hour. Read more
