Product Description

Product Description

This award winning game encourages memory and literacy skills. Suitable for 2 to 4 players, who each take a trolley that they must fill. Turn over one of the 32 cards showing familiar, everyday items from the supermarket, such as eggs, tomatoes, washing powder and aubergines, and if they are on your list, you can pop them in your trolley. The winner is the first player to collect all the items on their list and fill their trolley. This updated version of our best-selling game is suitable for children aged 3 to 7. Children can learn to recognize various grocery products and read the names from their lists. The game can promote plenty of discussion, not only while playing, but also on a shopping trip to a real supermarket - children can see how many items from the game they can see on the shelves. The game can be supplemented with one or both of the booster packs ('fruit and veg' or 'clothes') to increase the number of players and/or the number of items to buy. The sturdy, wipe-clean board means that the game will withstand constant playing, and the colourful illustrations allow the game to be played by young children with no reading ability. There is an educational guide printed on the box showing how the game can compliment your child's education.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for even beginner game-players 17 Oct 2006
This is a simple game for young children. There are 4 shopping lists, 4 shopping trolleys and 32 item cards with pictures of foodstuffs and other things that you can buy in the supermarket. Each player takes a shopping list and a trolley, and all the item cards are placed faced down. Players then take turns to pick cards and try to find the ones which match the pictures on their shopping list. The aim is to fill your trolley with the items on your list before anyone else gets all their things.

This is a fun memory game for even the youngest children. My two-and-a-half year old is addicted! She wants 'the shopping game' first thing in the morning and last thing at night. The great thing is that I can sit down with both her and my five year old and we can do something together that they both like. I have also been known to set them up playing with each other and then creep away and do something by myself for 15 minutes...!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game 10 May 2008
    By BM
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My children have loved the shopping game ever since they were old enough to understand the concept - about 2.5. There are other games out there that perform a similar function - having to remember where a face-down card is and having to find all the cards on your list - but this is the best version I've found. Shopping is something that all children know about and mine certainly found it fun to play at such a familiar activity. At the end of the game they enjoy taking their "full trolly" to an imaginary check out and paying for their shopping. I would highly recommend this game...

    5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter's favourite game 8 Feb 2008

My daughter is just about to turn three and this is her favourite game at the moment. The game needs 2-4 players and the aim is to collect the items on your shopping list by remembering/guessing where each item is from those turned over on the floor.

As well as being used for the game, the pieces and cardboard shopping trolley also get used for playing 'shops' with.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Speech Therapist's choice 24 April 2008
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I use this game a lot in therapy sessions. It's great for learning vocabulary, practicing speech sounds, turn-taking, listening and attention, concentration, etc. etc. Best of all, the children really enjoy playing it and it shows that 'low-tech' games are still very popular.

5.0 out of 5 stars My toddler can't get enough of this game! 20 Jun 2008

My little boy (2 years 9 months) absolutely adores this game. It's good on may levels - taking turns, memorising locations, improving vocabulary, etc., but most importantly it's good fun and we enjoy playing it as a family (which is fortunate, since our son requests it most days!!). The construction is sturdy enough to withstand the attentions of an excitable toddler!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game 3 Jan 2010

This is a fab family game which we can all play (from aged 2 onwards). This was a gift for our 6 year old, who loves it, however, it is just about easy enough for our 27 month old to play. Great fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars A perfect first memory game 18 Feb 2013
    Verified Purchase
This game is a simple memory game. The box contains everything you need and to get started including 4 shopping trolleys, 4 shopping lists and over 30 food/household items that are easy to recognise by little one. You can purchase a booster set that contains two more shopping lists, and the corresponding items. These are clothes and other non food items just to make the game a little more interesting when little ones become bored. When you purchase the game you have to push each piece of card from the cardboard sheets they arrive on.

They are sure to use foods which are purchased everyday in households so that they are recognisable and familiar to little one straight away. The pieces are card are fantastic quality, really thick which is perfect when being used by toddlers. The box they come in is also very durable and is still in perfect condition. They cars are laminated which makes them perfect for sticky little hands as they can be wiped down. The pieces are small, and so we have to be very careful not to lose any. To play you simply take a trolley card and a shopping list each. Then you place all of the items of grocery cards face down on the table. Next you take it in turns to turn over a card and check if it is on your list. If the item is on your list it moves into your shopping trolley. If not it is shown to the group and replaced face down so that it can be found if needed when it is their turn. Continue this until someone has all the items of their list in their trolley.

Whenever we reach for our board games this is the one that is chosen first despite its simple appeal. It is also great for concentration. My two year old little boy is like a whirlwind at the moment and this is one of the only things that can keep him entertained for more than five minutes.
