4.0 out of 5 stars Oranges in No Man's Land by Elizabeth Laird 30 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Oranges in No Man's land is about a family living in the Lebanon at a time of conflict. Ayesha, Latif and Ahmed' s mother died at the start of the conflict, and they haven't seen their father for months. They live with their granny in a refugee flat on one side of the Green Line, which nobody dares cross.
I didn't know much about the Lebanon before, so this book was very informative for me. It was very sad at the beginning, but Ayesha's happy mood lifted the spirits of the book overall.
I would recommend this book to people who like a good adventure story, but not to people who get bored easily whilst reading, as it drags on a bit in the middle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - used for Y5 Literacy 5 April 2012

Oranges in No Man's Land Great book for evoking feelings of a child in a country at war (Lebanon). Not too heavy but some great narrative writing for effect. Y5 were gripped and were inspired to write. Nice to have a heroine who held the attention of the boys as well as girls..
