4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent NT/Oracle Hybrid, 23 April 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle 8 and Windows NT Administrator's Black Book (Paperback)
I found this to be an outstanding reference for installing, configuring, and running Oracle on NT. I also really appreciated the NT OS information (MS sure doesn't provide it in the "Help"). The one negative that I found with the book is its lack of information that supports developers (e.g., packages, procedures, views, etc.). I had to go elsewhere for that. I continue to use it regularly when I have an admin issue.

I found this book very comprehensive. It walks you step by step in creation of a new instance using db assistant. Offers a complete guide to all the GUI dijor utilities offered by Oracle8 on NT.

Also has advance chapters which gets into the NT registry used by Oracle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for experienced Oracle/Unix DBAs going to NT, 21 Jan 1999
By Jim_Sniatecki@lincolnelectric.com - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle 8 and Windows NT Administrator's Black Book (Paperback)
This book is well structured, well organized, and well written. It has a lot of good examples and figures in support of the text. I referenced this book many times in my first implemetation of Oracle on Windows_NT. It was immensely helpful and saved me a lot of time and effort. The sections on Oracle Enterprise Manager and performance tuning were extremely informative and useful. In my opinion, this book is a must for Oracle DBA's implementing and supporting Oracle on Windows_NT.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good in parts - totally wrong in others..., 4 Dec 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle 8 and Windows NT Administrator's Black Book (Paperback)
While this is a good overview of oracle8 on NT, there are some major mistakes. The section on backups is at best misleading - the part on hot backups in 100% wrong. Had this book been reviewed by a junior DBA, these mistakes would have been spotted.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first actual NT-oriented Oracle book we've seen!, 8 Oct 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle 8 and Windows NT Administrator's Black Book (Paperback)
My company has been developing applications on Oracle and NT for more than 4 years already, and we never found a good book that integrated both platforms efficiently. The official Oracle documentation for NT is really poor and this guide is perfect for both first-time users and experienced Oracle DBAs.

We highly recommend it!
