Product Description

Product Description

This one-of-a-kind applications development guide teaches Oracle developers the ins and outs of using PL/SQL in client/server applications. PL/SQL is the key to building successful client/server applications for Oracle 7. It combines the data processing power of procedural language with the data manipulating power of a query language. The book explains how to develop, test, debug, and tune Oracle applications using such popular tools as Visual Basic, SQL, and Oracle Developer/2000. It also provides expert advice on transaction design, distributed processing, application security, and lots more, with helpful illustrations throughout.

I had to respond, after reading all the positive reviews and buying this book! As an experienced programmer and DBA (although not with Oracle)trying to learn PL/SQL, this book does not quite hit the mark. The author mentions writing this in five months, and it shows. The information is not organised in a logical manner, which makes it difficult to read and find the material you need. It is useful, but I would imagine it is a better reference then learning material.

Superb Reference 22 Sep 1999

Format:Paperback
My specialty is VB/VBA but I was put onto an Oracle project where I needed to do some PL/SQL coding. This book more than helped me achieve the tasks that were set for me - it is my bible! Can't wait for the Advanced PL/SQL programming book to be published.

Clear and superb instruction on PL/SQL concepts and application. I do not work in the computer field and I am a total novice to Oracle & Computer Programing. But managed to pass the OCP (Test 1 - SQL & PLSQL) solely by self-study, using this book for PL/SQL and and the Oracle Complete Reference for the rest of the sylabus. Highly recomended.
