Product Description

Product Description

This book/CD-ROM reference discusses the various products contained in Oracle Financials, with an emphasis on its accounting packages. It provides detailed implementation instructions and advice. It offers a blueprint for planning an implementation. Readers should find accounting knowledge within the context of the Oracle products, coverage of key features in each product, and the key issues in successfully installing them. They should also gain a practical plan for organizing, budgeting, staffing and managing an Oracle applications implementation, and learn about the ways in which package implementation differs from custom software development. It also addresses when to modify the package to meet business requirements, and when to modify business practices to suit the package. The CD-ROM contains useful software and reference materials to be provided by the Oracle Group. This title is aimed at the planner level, rather than the user level. Readers discover how tht packages work together, how to exploit their strong points and work around their weak points, and what it really takes to install and use them successfully. It should be helpful at every stage of the life cycle, from package selection through production and maintenance. G. Seibert is the author of "Working With Oracle Development Tools" and "Oracle Data Processing - A Manager's Handbook".

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction, 28 May 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
For those critics of you out there who think that this book was not this or not that, especially the reader from Port Arthur in Tasmania, I suggest you buy an Oracle Reference Manual or Users guide. Get real! This book gives a great introduction to the core Oracle Applications and I believe it was well done. It introduces the business and Functional side to Oracle Financials. For those pretentious readers who can't spell Oracle read the cover "Oracle Financials Handbook" - "Planning and Implementing the Oracle Financial Applications Suite" No where does it say Technical Reference Manual. I'd like to see these half baked consultants write ANYTHING half as good. Well done David and Graham. If anyone cares to discuss this work email me and we'll "CHAT"

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview and highlights on certain topics, 21 July 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
I think that it is great that books on Oracle Applications are being published as there are not many out there.

I bought this one and have passed it onto colleagues who are new to Applications. Looking forward to reading and using the one from Que in Sept/Oct.

Books such as this compliment the Oracle manuals, user groups and various web sites/ newsgroups that are out there focusing on Oracle Applications.

As support would tell you "your issue is not a bug but a consultancy/ implmentation issue". The more information available from consultants who have or do work with Apps the wealthier the Apps community.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book for Beginners., 18 May 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
This is a good book for beginners who wants to grasp the basics of Oracle Financials. It would have been better if areas like Multi-org and EDI were discussed in more details. Discussion on Procurement Cards could have been strengthened.
