1.0 out of 5 stars Certainly Not Advanced, 1 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Developer Advanced Forms & Reports (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
I found this book of very little practical use. Too much space is taken up with things like 'SQL and PL/SQL standards' and discussion rather than technical information and examples. If this is what you require then fine !

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as advanced as this book would claim to be, 9 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Developer Advanced Forms & Reports (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
Although this book has a lot of usable, general information it by no means covers the more advanced aspects of Oracle Forms development. In addition there are no examples of real time solutions or any problem scenarios that a developer could associate with. Personally I would like to see more customised solutions to specific problems/requirements that have been encountered by developers. In summary, this book is well structured and suitably detailed however is not as advanced as the authors suggest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a developer book worth having on my bookshelf, 3 Jan 2000
By Joe Strano - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle Developer Advanced Forms & Reports (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
There are plenty of beginner books on the market, and some are actually helpful. There was one question that was never answered though -- "OK, I can build a block. Now what? " Peter and Paul have answered this question perfectly. So well in fact that the 1 copy I bought for the office is not enough. This book has become mandatory for my employees to have in their library.

Top this off with the interview questions they provide for managers and this book is the most well rounded book to date. If you, or any of your people, are using Developer for your projects, this book is a must.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak if you want Advanced Reports, 23 Oct 2000
By SomeGuyInPhoenix - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle Developer Advanced Forms & Reports (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
I purchased this book unseen <I know better now> it appears to be very good for Forms, but it contains very little information on Reports, none of which I would consider "Advanced" <The reason i bought the book>. I do not develope Forms, so this was another waste of money on Oracle Press books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for forms, not so much for reports, 16 Dec 2002
By Travis Henning "travishenning" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oracle Developer Advanced Forms & Reports (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
This is a solid reference book for those doing primarily Forms development, but it lacks quite a little in the Reports department. If you're buying it for Reports development, as I did, you'll be disappointed. I have yet to find a very good Reports reference. That said, this is probably the best one out there. The book contains something like 70% - 30% Forms info to Reports info (and that may be a little generous). It does have a few good examples and is an easy read.
