definately I recommend this book.
it is very well written and explained technical bits
the tests at the end of each chapter also encourages us to go back and re-read the bits that I may not have understood the first time around.
it is hard work however reading the chapters, like any book which has a lot of material that one needs to cover.

My decision for 3 stars is based on my own exam experience. The book actually covered about 75% of questions - there were topics which are not in the book at all (Block header structures, Mr Watson?). I only passed because of my previous experience of using the product. However, if you read Concepts manual as well you will be just fine. (My score was 89%)

I do not like to put a downer on the book but I found the content weak for the OCA exam. I feel it would have been better to just read Oracle concept manual and you would get a good overview of Oracle and it would save you some money (as it is free). However if you need to have a quick 101 on oracle then this will help as it is more readable than the concepts (and I have read both) ...
For the exam get the "study guide by Mathew Morris" a lot meatier and straight to the point

It's not indicate if you are new on DBA job, and you want to became an ORACLE DBA.

When you buy this kind of books, sometimes is because you need to take an exam for a requeriment of a job. But the truth is the only opportunity to pass this exam is the time of expirence you have, if you work as a DBA of a static company is so hard you pass this exam, if you work as consultant there are more opportunities. So this book is not enough. I suggest you for every requirement of the test, make a good lab where you can practice, read a book like this, and the best, take the exams it has. The book help as to learn the environment of the exam, but the book doesn't teach you all the things you need to pass. The key off this exam is the Memory Architecture.

Used the Oracle Press SQL Exam Guide (Ramklass/Watson) and DBA Exam Guide (Watson) to take the beta exams, you get about 200 questions in three hours for the beta exams, and you don't get the result for a few weeks. I'm pretty sure I passed though, the books covered every question.
