I approached this book with some trepidation about how I would find the content, as I have worked with Oracle E-Business Suite for over 20 years and have had no exposure to Fusion Applications at all. Having had this book for a while now, I can say that my initial fears have proved to be unfounded.

The authors are recognized industry experts in their fields, and this comes across very well in the style and accuracy of the content. This book presents a well-paced and perfectly balanced approach to what can be achieved in developing, extending, and understanding Fusion Applications, and the Fusion Middleware Layer within Oracle. It is well pitched towards the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) Technical consultant who is planning to move into Fusion development, and makes no assumptions on the reader having any pre-requisite knowledge of the “Fusion” technology. It would even suit an EBS Functional consultant too, providing that they had some understanding of the technology. An out-and-out Functional consultant may struggle with some of the more in-depth technical aspects of this book though.

The opening couple of chapters provide an introduction to the technology and customization methods applicable to Fusion Applications.

The first chapter covers topics such as WebLogic Server, middleware components for Fusion Applications and an overview of the administration tools. It provides just enough of an overview to explain the concepts and terminology, without plunging the reader into too much detail.

The second chapter provides an overview to the types of customization that can be performed in Fusion Applications, including run-time behavior, and finishes on a good primer on the concepts of the Sandbox and Customization Manager.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Book on Fusion Applications 8 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Writing a book that provides both breadth of coverage for a very large subject area as well as meaningful depth is a very difficult trick to pull off. But the authors of this book have succeeded magnificently. The book tackles the subject of basic customization that users can perform through to in-depth feature development using the Oracle SOA stack. Not to mention reporting and analytics.

The book has been written in an engaging way providing context, backgound and Fusion Application principles and then taking examples of how to implement the different kinds of capabilities. From this book, you should have a good grasp of what to expect and how to approach Fusion application Extension work.

As a result I'd recommend this book to Architects, Project Manager's who want to understand what their development team should be doing and the risks of their approach. This would also form a good roadmap into the detail for developers starting out in the Fusion applications space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource 27 Jan. 2014
By Jayashree - Published on
I already have the EBS book that these authors have written in past and plus I have used Anil Passi's blog on various occasions for practical tips in Oracle Applications. Therefore I pre-ordered this book as soon as I saw it on amazon. Fusion Applications is a melting pot of various products and technologies that Oracle has acquired in past. Authors have done a real good job in explaining the core technology & extensibility framework available in Fusion Applications. I am half way through with reading the book thus far, and I must admit that Fusion Apps is not as complicated as I once thought after having read a good part of this book. Many of the step by step examples are very practical and can give the consultants a jump start in implementing Fusion Applications without having to first read gigabytes of standard Oracle documentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Oracle Fusion Applications 6 Jan. 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on
I love the way this book is organized. The first four chapters lay down a foundation of knowledge needed to personalize, extend, or customize Fusion Applications. The remaining 11 chapters provide extensive detail (including step-by-step instructions with pictures) on how to make Fusion Applications work for your specific use cases.

I'm personally hands-on with Fusion Applications on a regular basis as an advocate (Oracle ACE Director), a consultant, and a product manager building complementary products. The e-book version of this book will be on my iPad as part of my "go to" reference set. 5 stars without question.
