He does a wonderful job of putting each topic in perspective with explanations of exactly what impact each strategy will have.

Worth its weight in gold.,

For a junior DBA working without a senior colleague, this book has been a real God-send. Having this book is like having that trusted experienced DBA by your side to answer any questions, and also to teach you the really important aspects of running an Oracle site. The author's empathetic writing style makes you feel you're not alone when management are putting the pressure on for faster-bigger-better-more! Good real world examples help you get your head around the more complicated issues. Great layout makes the required information very easy to find. Cannot fault this book - so good it doesn't even have to rely on a gimmicky CD-ROM which many lesser publications try to tempt you with. Buy!

Yet again another Oracle Press book which covers those things that you just can't get the hang of in the Oracle Manuals. I'd recommend this book to all DBA's as it is full of little explanations and tips which if your unlucky you'll learn about the hard way, unless of course you read the book first. ttfn, Alan...

This book is extremely useful for all DBAs. It's not aimed at beginners like many books I have seen and does 'dive into the deep end' straight away - a fact that I find makes it easier to discover the kind of information you require. The 24x7 title may put you off if you are looking for a general DBA guide but it is very useful for all sites as it provides advice on configuration and preventing problems with your databases.
