1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy - Buy genuine from Optoma 1 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase
You're playing Russian Roulette if you buy one of these lamps.
It might be genuine and be fine. It might be counterfeit and destroy your projector.
The lamp failed on my HD200X and, as you do, I went looking on Amazon for a cheap replacement.
I first bought one that was cheap but the advert didn't carry the 'official' Optoma logo. That lamp went straight back to Amazon since it didn't even shine light in the right direction (yes really! - it was off-axis).
Amazon credited no problem and I then found this one.
Optoma logo, 'Optoma Technology' - got to be right - if a little more expensive. Wrong.
The lamp housing didn't slot straight into the projector. The two small holes in the housing weren't correctly spaced to clear the locating lugs in the projector. The housing also didn't have 'Optoma' in any of the moulded writing.
Aside from that, it looked OK so I opened up the locating holes with a swiss file so it'd fit and all seemed to be well.
After about 4 months a grey area started to appear near the centre of the screen. This got worse very quickly and after a couple of days I took down the projector (ceiling mounted) and remove the lamp.
It looked like there could be a flaw in the reflector of the lamp so I returned it (this review request is in respect of the replacement they sent).
This replacement still showed the grey area (by now the projector was unusable it had spread so badly). As a side note here; I'm 90% sure this replacement lamp IS a genuine one. The housing does show 'Optoma guaranteed lamp'.
Looking further for the problem I found what so many others have found - the plastic condenser lens inside the projector has melted due to incorrect lamp specifications.
Cost for repair by Optoma? - Just over 200.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems 1 July 2013
The item was delivered promptly and works perfectly. Easy to switch out as it comes in its own casing that you simply slot into the projector. I am not sure what problem Robin B. Callwood had with the item that meant it was unusable but I have had no issues. My thoughts are that perhaps it was the wrong model, I bought this item for my Optoma HD20. I would recommend checking the serial number on your projector before purchasing, depending on when you bought your projector you may need a different product.

Check the above link and scroll down to the lamp, there it explains whether it will be compatible or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very short lamp life - Overpriced product! 14 May 2014
By Martin
I've used my Optoma HD20 projector on a daily basis for 4 years. During that time I have used 2 bulbs (the original that came with the projector and a spare bought online). Both those bulbs racked up 1000's of hours usage before I decided to replace them because I noticed the image was becoming dimmer.

This is the 3rd bulb that I installed in the projector. I decided to purchase this one from Amazon because it came with the bulb housing which makes installation very easy. Also because it was sold and shipped directly from Amazon I believed this to be a genuine Optoma product.

The bulb lasted 3 months before one day it died and the projector shut itself down. I have put one of the old bulbs that has 2 years life on it back in as a replacement and it worked straight away. There is no visible damage on the bulb, it just simply stopped working.

This bulb from Amazon only comes with a 30 day warranty. You can get other non-Optoma bulbs on eBay for less than HALF the price and even they come with a 6 month warranty!

I will not be buying bulbs from Amazon again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well, difficult to fit 4 April 2014

Eventually, does what it should. Very tricky fitting it, screws on cartridge did not properly align into the projector holes. Took about 20 mins of squeezing and fiddling.
