Ordered last night, received this morning :)
If you have a 3D ready DLP projector, and either a 3D BR Player, 3D Sky box, or PS3....this box is a MUST! It will take the hdmi 1.4 3D signal, and convert it into the correct format for viewing with your 3D DLP LINK projector.
It will also support content that is in "side by side" format, and again convert this for use with the 3D DLP LINK projector.
I am using mine with the Optoma HD67, and I am very impressed with this setup.
The setup has native resolution of 720p, which is great for 3D gaming, and still looks perfectly sharp and clear for movies too.
So far, I have tested with the Blu-Ray 3D movie Resident Evil, a side by side demo clip of avatar, and the games Avatar, Superstardust HD, Killzone 3, Wipeout HD, and COD:Black Ops.
On ALL tests so far, the 3D element has been amazing. Full colour images, with absolutely ZERO "ghosting" or "crosstalk".
The depth is really impressive on avatar (although you need to set the unit for side-by-side for this game), and black ops. Although, some games I must say do suffer a bit in terms of the graphics when you switch to 3D mode. KZ3 is a prime example of this. It claims to still be running at 720p, but honestly, it doesn't look like 720p, more like dvd quality (480p or 567p maybe). The 3D element makes it totally worth it though, and this is obviously content dependant, as other games look just as good in 3D as they do in 2D.
The unit comes supplied with one pair of optoma's new ZD201 glasses. They are powered by CR2302 batteries....but if you look on ebay, I grabbed 100 spares for only £10, so that's not really an issue either :)
Even if you don't have a 3D DLP projector....it is still FAR cheaper to buy this box with an optoma HD67 (total cost etimated around £750 give or take) than it is to shell out on a 3DTV of a much smaller screen size, that will suffer terrible ghosting. If you don't believe me, goto a local TV dealer and try 3D LCD for yourself. Trust me, it isn't a patch on DLP.
If I had to find a negative for this product, it would simply be that, the nature of DLP LINK means that sometimes the glasses will not sync on first try, so you will want to keep your projector remote handy to press the sync button at the beggining of each session......but so far, i've found that ONCE SYNCED, the glasses stay operating correctly.....so it's not like you'll be watching a film and half way through thigns will start looking wierd. But it is unfortunate that there is no way to keep the sync when everything is switched off.....but it's the way the technology works, and it takes 2 seconds at the begginning of your session to sync them :)
Overall, I'm really impressed with this kit, it provides a cheap alternative to 3DLCDTV's, and actually out-performs them in my view, because you get a screen that's twice the size and with ZERO ghosting. THAT is a deal-breaker in my view :)
