Book Description

27 Jan 2012 Children of the Gods
Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than average people, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's well over eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning-and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

4.0 out of 5 stars YA paranormal with a Big Brother like society... 29 April 2012
By Cheryl M-M TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I can see this being a favourite for YA fans. It has just the right amount of supernatural/paranormal flair with a large smidgen of mythology. The main character is part of an ancient bloodline society and that genetic oddity comes with an ability. So far so good, except this society is run like Big Brother via the upper echelon and is reminiscent of dictatorial oppression at its finest.
I liked the fact that the author has interwoven some achy breaky heart subplots, but managed to keep it clean enough so younger readers can enjoy it. It has solid characters, both evil and good, with the exception of one or two that are somewhere in between. The concept is interesting for a series and strong enough to relay a message without being outlandish. I received a free copy of this book for my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal Fantasy Addict 31 Mar 2012
By Aishah
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oppression is a new, original first in the series of `Children of the Gods' story. I have not read any book like it in the paranormal and fantasy books I have read so far.

Elyse has always felt that she has a unique and extraordinary ability since she was a childhood, a secret she only shared with a Anna, her best friend since childhood. This is not the only secret that. After the death of her parents, Elyse doesn't seem to get settled much in any place that she goes. However when she arrives new in town, everything seems to go in chaos and a whole new world of different personalities and people is revealed to her.

Elyse is a very likable character and is easy to understand. She is fun, as well as full of adventure. Elyse is brave and is always at the front when it comes to protecting her friend which is a real big struggle when unexpected circumstances come into view and she has to stretch that protectiveness further which could be fatal. One other main character, one of the first that Elyse comes to meet is William. He is a totally lively, cute, funny and enthusiastic guy who is just fun to be with and hard to dislike. He is keen to help Elyse through the problems she faces and is one she can rely on. But Elyse's problem is not just any problem it could get her killed. Will William be prepared to help her and take that risk that leads to Elyse's death?

The storyline is filled with adventures and excitement keeping the story on edge and in action at every turn of a page. It is enveloped with romance, happiness and enthusiasm adding a unique edge to the story. It is an exploration of paranormal happenings along with the true meanings of friendship and love.
It is an exciting read packed with so many different things keeping you interested. It is a serious must-read, a gripping story that will hold your interest until the last turn of the page. I will strongly recommend to those readers who enjoyed the following books : Soul Screamers Series, the Iron Fey Series, Dragon Diaries Series, Witchblood, Trylle Trilogy and Morganville Vampires series.

I LOVED this book so much! It's intriguing, fun, and the Greek mythology was certainly a plus :) I have met Jessica Therrien, and you couldn't find a sweeter person anywhere. She has worked so hard in getting this book out there and it has definitely paid off! Highly recommend! :D
