3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Opinel 6 as expected 11 April 2014
By JamKart
Colour Name:Beech| Size Name:6 cm|Verified Purchase
I was after the largest 'legal to carry knife' and thought this was the Opinel 6 (without the lock). It's in fact the Opinel 5 and is a tiny knife. So beware!

Better to buy the Opinel 6 & pop the locking ring off to make it legal - which is what I subsequently did.

Amazon service was exceptional - when I tried to return the knife they said keep it & still gave me a refund :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best knife I've ever owned 17 Jan 2014
Colour Name:Beech| Size Name:6 cm|Verified Purchase
Being a contributor to both wilderness and survival forums, I choose my words, and my reviews very carefully indeed.
Vary rarely, do I find a product that is not only of high quality but also, a product that so successfully become a "take everywhere" possession.
The non-locking and blade length overcomes the nanny-state issues in the UK and the beach handle feels great in the hand and the carbon blade holds an edge well for a very long time. I own a number of knives and this would be the only one I would grieve over the loss of.
Value for money is no issue at all as this little gem punches well above it's weight.
Keep the blade lightly oiled and don't put it through washing machine like I did...
There will always be an Opinel "peasant knife"on my person from now on.
A must buy with great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars User friendly and cheap as chips 15 Aug 2013
Colour Name:Beech| Size Name:6 cm|Verified Purchase
If you want a small knife for cutting string, paper, thread, small vegetables etc and can't be bothered mastering the art of knife sharpening this is the knife for you.A couple of strokes on a soft sharpening stone and the Carbon steel comes up razor sharp and stays that way for a good time (depending on use obviously). Keep in mind this is a small knife with a blade thickness of just 1mm though so you are not going to get much heavier work done with this but then you can always get a size 6-8 for camping duties (1.5mm thickness) or a size 9 and above (2mm thickness) for bushcraft. I find this size sits very comfortable on three fingers (smallish hands) with the bottom of the handle shaped perfectly to "anchor" on my pinky. It weighs next to nothing, is UK legal carry and requires minimal maintenance. Yes, there may be better and more expensive knives out there but for value you will not beat an Opinel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful little kinfe. 18 Mar 2014

Nice sized and UK legal (no lock). The carbon steel (rather than stainless) sharpens up effortlessly, and it's the classic opinel style and quality. Only issue is there is no spring or slipjoint mechanism meaning the blade can fold back with very little pressure. I can see why the locking ring models took off, but if you're careful it's a useful and attractive little pocket knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Opinel 17 Sep 2013
Colour Name:Beech| Size Name:6 cm|Verified Purchase
I failed to take account of the metric size stated when I ordered (me, I'm old fashioned and prefer feet and inches) and it is much smaller than I would have wished. But it is razor sharp and holds that edge. Next time I will be more careful and repeat the purchase with a larger model, but nevertheless this one is neat, fits the pocket well and can be carried everwhere without running foul of the law as an offensive weapon! Pity it doesn't have a locking blade as in the larger model.

4.0 out of 5 stars lil Opinel 7 Feb 2013

This knife is a nice little UK legal carry knife , the blade is hard but not brittle. You can open this with one hand if the your nail is long enough but it can become tedious. The point on the blade makes it ideal for stabbing and opening things. The knife is very very light , which i personally don't like but there isn't much to the knife. Also the hand is very smooth and might tend to slip if grip isn't tight , i would have given three but the weight of the knife ruins it for me and this knife is way too thin for any bush-craft , but overall a nice little pocket knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice little pocket knife 6 July 2014
Colour Name:Beech| Size Name:6 cm|Verified Purchase
Very nice little pocket knife. Not the sharpest or the strongest but a good, solid blade. Well within the 3 inch limit and no lock so I'm not afraid to shove this in my pocket if I'm doing something and think I need a knife.

2.0 out of 5 stars Small
Didn't realise how small it would be. It's really too small to use for anything.

Also, mine rusted up in about 6 months. I definitely wouldn't buy another.
