Product Description

Product Description

The debut novel from legendary SAS Survival Guide author Lofty Wiseman.

• Test your wits at key points in the story to see if you’d survive Operation Lavivrus, and make it home alive. Lofty has written optional questions throughout the story to give you the opportunity to test yourself against the best.

The country is on alert – Britain is at war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, and SAS soldiers Peter and Tony find themselves in a military research centre being briefed in the use of a top-secret device. That’s the easy part.

Part of an 8-man team, they parachute into Argentina – but the drop-off goes wrong. Tony and Peter, separated from the others, are forced to use every trick they know to evade a determined and intelligent Argentinean officer throwing men and resources at the problem of finding the operatives.

What follows is a masterclass in escape and evasion in one of the world’s toughest climates – but will they make it out alive?

Lofty channels his considerable survival know-how and personal experience with the SAS into an action-packed story that will allow readers to experience the life of an SAS officer – from military bureaucracy, to intense interpersonal bonds, to masterfully described life or death survival scenarios.
Lofty has created a thrilling story that even the most experienced survivalists will be sure to be moved by—and pick up tips from.

In recent years there has emerged a sub-genre of action thrillers, featuring authentic technical detail. Typified by such notables as Andy McNab and Marcus Wynne these works rely on the authors' actual experience of weapons and tactics, coupled with the ability to tell a gripping story. Now their ranks has been joined by Lofty Wiseman, previously renowned for a series of survival and self-defence manuals. Anyone who has met Lofty will know that he is a natural storyteller, and with Operation Lavivrus he brings his unsurpassed experience of twenty-six years in the Special Air Service Regiment to forge a breathtaking action thriller.
Set during the Falklands Campaign Operation Lavivrus follows Staff Sergeant Tony Watkins as he leads a Freefall Troop in a sabotage mission on the Argentinean mainland. Lofty takes us through the painstaking build up process to a Special Forces mission, including a full fitness workout in the SAS gym.
As an added extra the book includes sections which the reader can access as a quiz, to test knowledge of weapons and procedures. Never seen this done before, and it made the book an even more absorbing read.
Lofty has had a book of funny stories called "Who Dares Grins" in the works for several years. I hope it gets published soon.
I have no doubt that Operation Lavivrus will be a bestseller, and hope that it is just the first in a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars What took him so long ?! 5 July 2012

After all the Chris Ryan / Andy McNab books, it`s about time Lofty started writing novels. Hopefully this is the first of many and if this one is anything to go by, I will be downloading them the minute they come out ! This book is well up to Loftys usual writing standard and I would recommend it highly !

Outstanding - apart from the questions appearing at random intervals, which was really very frustrating - they should really all be at the end of the book to see if you have actually read it properly.
