5.0 out of 5 stars Stick with it 31 Jan. 2010
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Having bought this about the same time as CoD World at War I dropped it after a few goes and enjoyed the more accessible game play of World at War. That lasted for a while until I realised that there isn't any real progression in World at War and that once you've esperienced the quick hit it doesn't real go anywhere other than variation in locations. So I had another pop at Dragon Rising. Well worth the return. After settling into the tempo and feel of the game its immensely more rewarding. This is nearer simulation than the other shooters, but planning, stealth and decisive action are rewarded and make for a truly immersive gameplaying experience. This is the type of game you will happily replay stages just to explore alternative ways of meeting your objectives.
Only 4 out of 5 for fun because it is gruelling and intense and not for the casuals but 5 out 5 overall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than COD MW2! 22 Feb. 2010
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I saw this on the shelf and thought I'd give it a go after reading a very positive review in XBox monthly. After being thoroughly disappointed with COD MW2, I was glad I did.

To get anywhere in this game you have to use tactics which wasnt true of MW2. I found that to be a shoot em up with no tactics except 'shoot a lot and you will finish the game.' Not only that, it was completed within hours (and I wouldnt class myself as a gaming pro).

Flashpoint is a much more grown up game and if you dont think, you wont get anywhere. The only thing that I found let this down (a little) was the graphics in regard to the overall gaming picture, it was a slighlty grayish feel and not true to life. Oh and the difficulty in actually targeting the bad guys (in this case the Chinese). GRAW &GRAW2 were better in this respect. That being said though the game more tham made up for it.

The missions were good and varied and so were the array of weapons, weapons systems and vehicles to jump aboard. If you like a good tactical game with lots of killing to be done and you've got the cash, I'd recommend you buy Flashpoint, its a quality game to add to the collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not dreadfull, but certainly not great. 28 Oct. 2009
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
The thing that puzzles me most about this game is this; they are clearly going for the ultra-realistic angle. None of this charging in, taking seven shots to the chest and then patching yourself up and heading off to the next fight. But if that's the plan, why are the enemies almost completely unaffected by gunfire? If your lucky, and you hit one in the body, he might, MIGHT stop shotting at you for a second. Chances are he'll contiue as if nothing has happened until you shoot him another 15 times. Head shots are, quite rightly, instantly fatal and very tricky to do, but anything else seems a lot like shooting a robot.

Secondly, if we're getting as close to real life war as possible, why do you keep sending me against tens or hundereds of enemy soldiers, with a squad of 4 people and ten minutes to do my job? I'm not special forces, or I'm certainly not kitted out like them, I'm just regular infantry. There should be 50 of me. You give me atrillery support... but only one shot; you give me very rare, very limited air support, which often misses the target; and 9 times out of ten your putting foot soldiers up against armoured vehicles.

And finally, as everybody else has said, the AI is dreadful. Both enemy and friendly forces are an equal mixture of super-human (spotting, and acurately shooting at targets from 500m away with the naked eye) and idiotic (standing 10m away from an enemy and shouting "support gunner, 10m" whilst he shoots me).

Not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination, certainly challenging; but not a lot of fun to be had either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wait and see if they fix it 23 Oct. 2009

Dont rush to buy this game yet.

As many of the reviewers have mentioned, it is a decent game, but it is not finished.

As things stand, 2 weeks after release, the multiplayer doesnt work on XBL, it took codemasters a week to admit this, and the latest is 'we arent sure why it doesnt work, but are looking into it'. At the moment if you are lucky enough to get into a game, or if you set up a private game, there are only 2 maps on each of the 2 game types.

Thats ok in itself, but there are a lot of flaws in the single player game. It is a decent game if you can put up with some flaws, but IMO it is not a patch on the original on PC, a bit of a shame when they have had 10 years or so to work on this!

Graphics are decent, but not jaw dropping. Personally i am more concerned with the gameplay than the looks, but the dodgy AI, moody save system which doesnt always work, 101 bugs and glitches etc etc etc take the shine off what could and should have been the game of the year. Very short also, took me less than 8 hours on normal difficulty, and I wasnt rushing, im sure others have done it in 5-6. One other plus, the sound is very good.

This game appears to have been rushed out to beat COD by a few weeks and boost sales. I would have preferred them to wait until it was finished.

Have a look on the codemasters forums before buying. It seems they are working on a patch to fix some of the many bugs and get multiplayer working. They also intend releasing some dlc in the next couple of weeks. Wait and see if it does actually get fixed before purchasing or the chances are you will be as frustrated as the majority of people who bought it on release. Good chance the price will be back below £30 as well by the time it is worth buying.

Ps - google operation flashpoint 2 mission codes, and the 6 retailer codes for the extra missions are freely available. I finished all 6 in 45-60 mins or so, but hey they are free!
