Beautiful voices..., 14 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Opera Song [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Those expecting banging house like that on Vries' UK debut 'The Theme' are in for a surprise. This time around, CMC is roped in to provide superb quality, haunting vocals. The production quality on this track is high, CMC can sing, and together they have produced a single to haunt the nations dancefloors. At a time when the dance scene is filled with embarrasing cover versions of songs by Tiffany and Whitney Houston, songs of the high quality that Jurgen Vries has produced here are more than welcomed. A thoroughly deserved hit.

Catchy dance tune featuring Charlotte Church, 30 Dec 2006
This review is from: The Opera Song [CD 1] (Audio CD)
This was Charlotte Church's foray into dance music in between her classic past and her R&B present. There's absolutely no doubt that she can sing. Its a very uplifting dance tune, I love it!

Catchy Euphoric - more reverb than York Minster Cathedral!, 10 Feb 2003
This review is from: The Opera Song [CD 1] (Audio CD)
This song is not called "The Opera Song"! (I feel like Magritte...) It is called "Brave New World", after Aldous Huxley's brilliant "1984"-type book. However I must admit, the title "The Opera Song" is much more interesting and chart-worthy. Aside form this, the other reason it has been renamed "The Opera Song" is because of the non-word singing after each chorus, and before the next verse. This part does sound vaguely Opera-like, and is certainly a good signature section for the song.
The lyrics of Brave New World are actually quite cool. They seem to be referring to some sort of pre-cognitive power, or perhaps spiritual sense (or perhaps a drug experience? :)) The chorus and verse have an almost poetic relationship to each other. Overall they fit in well with the song and the production.
Talking about the production, it is unbelievably heavy. It makes this the tranciest and euphoricast euphoric trance track ever. There is loads of reverb on this song - it almost sounds like it was recorded in a cathedral! The effect of this on the dance floor must be unreal and very trippy. This is the spaciest most "roomy" dance track I've ever heard. At first this put me off it, but after a while it grew on me thanks to the catchiness of the song.
The song itself is pretty euphorically written as well. The chorus is very sing-a-long and high up, and of course if followed by the "opera" bit which fills out the whole of "the cathedral".
Overall I like this song. It is not a 5 star one, but it is enjoyable. And on the dance floor it must raise people to a whole new level of consciousness!
