I loved the book. Some bits I already new, others I hadn't even thought of. I like that you really explained about the day to day running of the business. Down to how to greet the guests as I hadn't given it a thought and now I am confident enough to just get on with it. I have made a lot of notes and will be revisiting the book frequently. I think the best bit was the chapter about what is your profit, down to working out how much each palm full of foot scrub etc. as it really made you think.

If you want straight talking and no beating around the bush - then this easy to read and practical guide to opening your own business is the book to buy. When saw that the author had owned 5 salons I was slightly skeptical - until I realised that those salons were Nail Haven - where I had done my nails years back and loved the service that I received.
This book is definitely value for money as Ego talks you through step by step how to write a successful marketing and business plan specific to the beauty business. The book is packed full of practical examples which has given me the confidence to price your treatments the right way and manage staff effectively. They say you learn from your mistakes, but in this book you don't need to, Ego tells you what pitfalls to avoid, so that opening and managing your salon isn't just blood, sweat and tears but you can actually make money and enjoy building your business.
This book is definite must-have.

"Open Your Own Salon the Right Way" by Ego Iwegbu-Daley, former owner of 6 salons gives you a unique perspective and guidance on opening a beauty salon.
She honestly shares her trials and successes. There are other how to start you beauty business books available but they are generic business books which could apply to any business. What I love about this business start-up book is that its focused at the beauty industry, particularly nails and Ego shares her personality, personal hurdles and victories. She gives you the inside scoop of how she set things up. She tells you what you need to do. What you need to avoid. And she takes you by the hand, not as an authoritative knows it all, but as a trusted friend, mentor and expert who had been there and is willing to help, advise and share valuable insider information.

Written in plain but witty language this guide helped me immensely. I loved the clear layout, lots of white space and how easy it was to navigate through the different sections. There were so many useful hints and advice for starting my business - even if you already have some knowledge of business (which i had) i found it still acted as a brilliant and comprehensive checklist. It's easy to dip in and out of it for reference, which was essential when it actually came down to implementing different parts of my set-up. I also really liked the personal anecdoetes that helped drive home the main points and stops it feeling like yet another boring business book. It put the excitement back into my plans at times when i just felt like giving up!
