Product Description

There was something wrong! Just as the boiling water was about to be poured on his head and the man with the red book appeared and his life flashed before his eyes, Akram the Terrible, the most feared thief in Baghdad, knew this had happened before. Many times. And he was damned if he was going to let it happen again. Just because he was a character in a story didn't mean that it always had to end this way. Meanwhile, back in Southampton, it's a bit of a shock for Michelle when she puts on her Aunt Fatima's ring and the computer and the telephone start to bitch at her for past misdemeanors. But that's nothing compared to the story that her kitchen appliances have to tell her.

Ali Baba has escaped fairytale land and has become a dentist. His enemy is trying to escape too and kill him because he is sick of repeating the story over and over and dying in boiling oil each time. Household utensils and machinery talk. Reality and fairytale collide. Oh, and there's a vicious toothfairy called Fang. What more could you want from a book?! It is completely ridiculous, totally hilarious, and you are garanteed to get sucked into the wierd little world of fairytales. I was laughing outloud. This is definatly a book to make you feel good. I am looking forward to reading more Tom Holt (which I definatly will), and would recommend 'Open Sesame' to anyone, young or old.

Genius 2 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is the first Tom Holt book I read, and since I've been a keen collector of his other books. If you like comic fantasy then this is ideal - the characters are mostly familiar ones (Ali Baba, for instance, plays a large part), but they're represented well and the female lead and her talking electrical equipment are works of comic genius. This book is excellent - I'd recommend it to anyone who likes laughing. Expect to walk around with a big grin on your face when you read this.

Made me laugh 11 Aug 2008
Format:Paperback
I read this on a recommendation from a friend, and after reading it I am very grateful. I read a different review of Tom Holt that compared him to Douglas Adams. It's a good comparison. So if you were a DNA fan, try this. Tom has a very funny way of describing situations and some of them are laugh out loud funny. I have since read 2 more of his books (Expecting Someone Taller and Only Human) and both are equally good.
