"The Orlando Sentinel" A thriller...with deftness and charm.

Product Description

Be careful what you wish for....

On her thirty-fourth birthday, Daisy Minor decides to make over her entire life. The small-town librarian has had it with her boring clothes, her ordinary looks, and nearly a decade without so much as a date. It's time to get a life -- and a sex life. The perennial good girl, Daisy transforms herself into a party girl extraordinaire -- dancing the night away at clubs, laughing and flirting with abandon -- and she's declared open season for manhunting. But her free-spirited fun turns to shattering danger when she witnesses something she shouldn't -- and becomes the target of a killer. Now, before she can meet the one man who can share her life, first she may need him to save it.

The main character in this book Daisy is brilliant she is very intelligent, but has never taken any real interest in her appearance, she dresses rather dowdily until that is she wakes up on her 34th birthday and realises it's time for a change, that change includes finding a man. But first she has to let the whole town know that she is looking. From then on She comes up with one or two hairbrained schemes which either land her in trouble or in some very embarrassing situations. Being bailed out on numerous occasions by Jack Russo the local chief of police. Daisy then unknowingly witnesses a crime and Jack has to protect her from the people who are out to kill her. All the characters stand out and have their own little mannerisms. It is very well written easy to read, entertaining fiction. If you've never read Linda Howard before I would strongly recommend you start with this, you will soon want to read more.

This is one great book written by Linda Howard. Like Mr Perfect, the tone of the book is humourous with Daisy and Russo heating up the pages with their witty dialogue and explosive chemistry. Russo is another of Ms Howard's alpha male cop while Daisy, on the other hand, is an undiscovered babe... until now. Determinedly shaking off her spinster image, Daisy unfortunately caught the attention of one of the members of an illegal smuggling ring. Inadvertently having witnessed his death, Daisy is now being hunted.

This book is really more a romance than thriller. Clever dialogues, compromising situations and combustive chemistry makes this book a must read for every in search of a light-hearted romp.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Somehow, romance authors have turned to writing romantic suspence, and I like it. This is the story of Daisy Minor, who is a small town librarian, and still lives with her mother. She is an educated woman, but has fallen into a pattern which at the start of the book she decides that she has had enough of. She moves out (much to the scandalous delight of the gossipy neighbors) and into a house of her own, which isn't in the best part of town, but the rent is cheap. She gets help in her makeover by a man that the town is convinced is gay, since he knows what the shade puce is (Who came up with puce?!? - it sounds horrible.) She also has a run-in with the new sherrif, Jack Russo, who comes to the library to use the computer. And of course, these two people who couldn't be more different have a clash of wills, and sexual tension.

There is a scam going on, run by the mayor of the town, who is importing Mexican girls in a slavery ring. They think they are coming up to do domestic work, but they are sold off as sex slaves. Sherrif Russo and one of the neighboring sherrifs are worried about girls who are given knockout pills and raped. Russo is also worried about Daisy when he sees her out at a bar. But when Daisy witnesses a murder without realising it, she becomes a target of the Mayor's hitman as a loose end. This of course bring the two protagonists together quickly, and Russo takes on the protection of Daisy, and trying to figure out who is trying to kill her and why.

A very satisfying read, if a little bit short. Howard does a good job, as always of brining together two disparate personalities and making them work together in a believable manner. Neither is intimidated by the other, and you can get a sense of caring between the two, as they work together.

After reading 'to die for' and 'drop dead gorgeous', this is the third linda howard's book for me. The storyline is good though not as funny as the first two books that I've read. Read more

Let it always be Open Season
A lovely read for a rainy day - Linda Howard has a way of endearing her characters to her reader. I just love the way she plays the two main characters off each other. Read more

Tepid and predictable
Had this been the first book I read from this author I would have not continued to read her other books. To me "Open Season" was a bit of a disappointment. Read more

Warm and funny
I loved Daisy Minor, the combination of intelligence innocence and honesty was wonderful. This is one of the few books I have read that made me wish for a book 2.

Ms Howard's best since "After the Night"
Ms Howard appears to be returning to form. The plot is topical with just enough tension to keep a pleaurable degree of suspense without being too dark. Read more
