Product Description

Product Description

A Tom Sharpe style look at a castle run by a dysfunctional family of aristocrats

A CASTLE ON ITS UPPERS

Cove Castle is skint and Lord Cove and his family face a life on the streets.
Watch out Lord Grantham and P.G.Wodehouse. This could happen to Downton Abbey and Blandings Castle, in the 21st century!

WHAT DOES COVE CASTLE DO?

It lowers its drawbridge to the Great Unwashed

ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Not really. Unless you count squatting, bombings, a drug garden, a ghost's revolt, art forgeries, smuggling and assassination attempts
It's all here. You will not want to put this book down

More About the Author

Charlie Bray is an ex teacher, policeman, night club bouncer, bank manager and publisher.

In keeping with his love of humour, Charlie's first novel is 'Open House at Cove Castle - The Great Unwashed Are Invited In'. It takes a Tom Sharpe style look at an ailing castle run by a dysfunctional family of aristocrats. The family is broke and face the possibility of being evicted and living a life on the streets. Lowering its drawbridge to the great British public seems its only option but leads to a whole raft of hilarious incidents, created by ghosts, smugglers, forgers, assassins and squatters.

Charlie has also published two comedy novellas:
'The Village Idiot Cruise Club' He wrote it hoping to make it funnier than the Titanic, which he found hilarious. A quirky crew on a quirky cruise liner make passengers wish they'd been on the Titanic.
'The Village Idiot Ebay Club' He wrote this one in deference to all the rubbish he's bought - and still buys - on Ebay.

Charlie likes a bit of a rant, and his latest book, 'The Trouble With Celebrity' takes a heavy swipe at the famous. Well, he's got more reason than most to have a pop. He's been knocked out by one, peed on by another and had to pull a gun on one of the Great Train Robbers. He also lost Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, got drunk with Keith Moon and 'arrested' John Lennon. Oh, and Charlie went to school with a mass-murderer. Always there to help others, Charlie's even saved an old lady from a handbag swinging Lady Archer. Add that to one of your novels, Jeffrey!

Charlie, as an ex art publisher, is passionate about the self-publishing revolution and is the founder of
www.theindietribe.com a partnership dedicated to supporting and promoting self-published authors worldwide. With this hat on he has published a series of booklets, Build A Book: How to Write and Sell a Novel, together with '10 Steps to a Perfect Plot: A plotting Blueprint'

4.0 out of 5 stars Cove Castle 1 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Very reminiscent of early Tom Sharpe in style and tone. I would have liked a little more character development and some more comedic nastiness but apart from that I enjoyed it. A light, entertaining, easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly entertaining 26 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I took a punt on this unknown author and was not disappointed. If you're looking for laugh out loud entertainment and an insight into a family dafter and more colourful than any mad great aunt you can imagine, Cove Castle is definitely worth a try. Battles between the classes are in full swing as an aristocratic family and their staff attempt to forge their beloved castle into the 21st century. Whether they will survive is anyone's guess. After enjoying this debut by Charlie Bray I'm not sure I'm any closer to knowing, but I intend to be keeping a close eye on this author and what he chooses to delight us with next.

This was just OK. It was funny in parts but mainly it was just a bit silly although I did read to the end which I don't if I'm not usually keen. I think I was hoping it would get better.

This was a fantastic and easy-to-read book, which flew by reading it on my Kindle. I found the description particularly strong and could easily picture the castle and all its quirky and entertaining characters within. Great value for money as well at only 77p. If you're looking for something to entertain you, as in seriously make you laugh, with a breadth of great characters then check out this book by Charlie!

5.0 out of 5 stars A 21st Century P.G. Wodehouse 25 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Charlie Bray has created a wonderful, feel good world that provides ready-made escape from harsh reality. The 'Cove Castle' saga is clearly set to run and run, and 'Open House' launches it brilliantly.

Loveable characters such as the adolescent rebel, Che Guevara, the very handy but unhappy, Disgusted Freddie and the bumbling old budgie obsessed Marquess providemany side-splitting. But its always good to hiss at the villains such as Laurence Harbinger, the Hanging Judge, Bert Weedler, the wannabe assassin, and Oscar Wick, the public school educated 'oick', and then there are the ghosts. Don't even get me started on them. There'reall there with many others in the magnificent stately home that is Cove Castle.

Problems, solutions and farcial moments conspire to emulate a P.G. Wodehouse novel of the 21st Century

Do not buy this book if you have an aversion to laughing out loud
