Product Description

The 140th Open Championship at Royal St George's will live long in the memory...   A 200 to 1 rank outsider, who became one of the most popular winners in the event's history.   A record breaking first round from a 20 year old English amateur and an emotional farewell to one of the game's most beloved champions.     Having tried and failed on 19 times to lift the famous old Claret Jug, Darren Clarke became the oldest man to win The Open for 44 years.   While many of the game's elite struggled to cope with a fearsome, unforgiving course in demanding weather, 42 year-old Clarke prospered.   He won by three shots, overcoming a spirited American challenge spearheaded by Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.   The 2011 Open served up a fairytale first day....and the drama continued all week.   Playing alongside five-time Open champion Tom Watson, after who he was named, Tom Lewis snatched a share of the opening round lead with a sensational round of 65, the lowest by an amateur in the 151-year history of the championship.   It was a score matched by Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, returning to the venue where in 2003, a visit to one of Royal St. George's many penal bunkers cruelly cost him the title.   Through Bjorn and the champion, Clarke, the 2011 Open was a stirring celebration of perseverance.   The championship also marked the end of an era, the first Open contested since the death of the great Severiano Ballesteros, a hero who transcended golf.    Using exclusive interviews with the players themselves, the story of golf's oldest and most coveted major is retold in this exclusive DVD. DVD Extras: Tribute to Seve, Highlights of the 2011 Amateur Open Championship, 18 Hole Fly-overs.

The Open Championship dvd's are always well produced and definitely worth purchasing a copy. This year's is extra special in the wake of Darren Clrke's victory, a popular player who reached the top of his personal mountain after being written off as a player. The only criticism is that the tribute to Seve is perhaps a little too short.
