The subtitle of this book is "A Practical Guide to Angelic Visions and Heavenly Experiences."
As such, I call it an ingenious"trap"; others might call it a "Godly ambush". Today many in Christendom are seeking signs, wonders, angelic visitations, etc. The problem is, if one focuses too heavily on these things, they may lose sight as to where they should really be focusing their energy.
The first half of the book, Gary provides impressive credentials. He's shares some really extraordinary visions and angelic encounters he's experienced. He knows what he's talking about. Anyone interested in such things would be really hooked and riveted by Gary's story.
But then, in the middle of the book, he springs his trap! At the beginning of chapter six he states, "Often we are so busy seeking an experience or the gifts, or wanting more of His power. The truth is: We have not developed an intimate relationship with Him that He longs for and which we so desperately need."
The book is actually about the absolute necessity of having an intimate relationship with God. Everything genuine and worthwhile springs from that. Supernatural power is a natural by-product of a truly intimate relationship with God.
I've associated with charismatic and pentecostal circles for nearly 40 years. During that time I've seen all kinds of zany, unbalanced teachings invade the church, people going off on tangents and entire ministries crashing and burning. People have been seeking the wrong things and getting unbalanced. Gary sets it perfectly straight in this book. It's about seeking the face of God first, with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. God will take care of everything beyond that.
Highly Recommended!
