Hi

After trawling around Amazon music looking for something different I came upon this gem of an album.

I read the reviews and listened to the snippets of songs on here and I liked what I heard..but you never really know until you hear the whole album.

My previous albums include the likes of Coldplay, U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM etc....

The album 'flows', it's not partcularly heavy but has deep meaningful lyrics, good singer etc..

Highlights have to be:

Angels or Devils

Somewhere in the middle

Every little thing

Candleburn

Give it a go...

If you're interested in another great album that few people in the UK have heard of then take a look at Vertical Horizon - Go.

When I first came across this album, I was really impressed with the reviews that people had given. Nearly everyone on amazon had given it 5 stars and I was just discovering this side of chilled out rock music, so I thought "why not?" and bought it. It was a defining moment in my CD collection...
I'd not heard any Dishwalla music before, and quite frankly I'm beginning to wonder how that was possible. This is a quality record, smooth, atmospheric and melodically sound. Right from the opening almost Middle Eastern sounding drum beats of 'Opaline', through the emotion packed 'Somewhere In The Middle' to the solemn piano riff at the beginning of 'Candleburn' finishing up with the distinct clarity of 'Drawn Out' which has the same effect as a gorgeous sunset in the ending of this album, there isn't a weak link in the chain here.
This is one of the most complete albums I think I'll ever listen to. Every song has it's own character and it's own little space on the album. I did wonder if I'd bought the right album when I first heard 'Opaline', the title track, but as soon as the opening chords of Angels Or Devils came on I knew this album was a winner. I've never tired of listening to this album at all in the 6 months I've owned it. It's a wonderful way to wind down after a hard days work. There are the more upbeat songs, 'Angels Or Devils', 'Somewhere In The Middle' and 'Mad Life', but blended in beautifully with the less driven songs like 'Nashville Skyline' and 'When Morning Comes'.
I'd recommend their other studio album "And You Think You Know What Life's About", which is rather more rock based than this slice of sheer music genius.

What can i say?! I heard about this Cd through recomendations on amazon, and lisend to the clips. I thought, yea sounds good. When the cd comes i put it on and WOA!! This cd is absoluty brilliant. If you like Bands like the goo goo dolls, maybe a bit like the calling, some songs a little U2 ish. But if you like Lifehouse, and the bands above get this cd now! the songs are brilliantly written, fantastic lyrics, great singing voice. Amazing music, the whole cd is just great! i 100% recomend u buy this! Most songs are quite soft, and very relaxing. Trust me, buy it!

If you like The Calling, Lifehouse, etc, then you'll probably like this. Be warned, it is VERY mellow, very ballad-heavy. However, you can't argue with the quality of what's on here. Great voice, cool production, cool songs. It loses one star for me because I'd like a few more uptempo tracks, but that's a minor criticism. I've had this CD for 5 days and it hasn't left the CD player, which is always a good sign!!

Dishwalla i find is quite based around the vocals of the lead singer and he tries to encorporate the music around it. The vocals are very good from a quite professionally trained singer, with a high depth of range and rhtymn within each song.

This is an album to buy for your collection, and you get bored with this album easy as it always has something new to offer you in each of its songs.

What a great album, this band certainly gets better with each album. Ive been a fan of Dishwalla since they first came out, with there very catchy "Counting Blue Cars".
Opaline doesnt have a one bad song on it, its very easy on the ears yet still draws you in, mellower than their previous album "And you thinking you know what lifes about"
A good buy !

Is there such a genre as Mellow Rock ? If there was then Dishwalla would be top of their game for producing some fantastic rock ballads. This is undoubtably the band's best complete album, so if you buy any of their albums, take a tip and make it this one. I was hooked when I first heard the single Angels or Devils which is still my fave track and worth the price of this album on its own. Dishwalla are a five piece band who all contribute to the writing of the songs and with the brilliant vocalist/lyricist JR Richards as frontman, they sound so together. The production and also some co-writes by Gregg Wattenberg throughout is a masterpiece and shows someone also at the top of their craft.
My other personal stand-out tracks are the piano driven Candleburn, Every Little Thing, Today Tonight, Home and Somewhere In The Middle.
Like other reviewers on here, please note this is an album not to pass over, buy it before its too late.
