The cover art--depicting the three primary female characters from the T.V. anime--serves as a rather helpful indication of what to expect from this C.D.: a colourful and curious experience.
Performed by the characters' respective voice actresses, the key focus is the full version of the anime's opening theme song: 'Pre-Parade'--an upbeat, eclectic and decidedly bizarre piece of music which, for fans of the show, is sure to be remembered with fondness. This is perhaps the central criticism: such is the peculiarity of the song itself that those unfamiliar with the show may find it somewhat deterring. The only other vocal track on the C.D., entitled 'Ka.Ra.Ku.Ri'--''Crackly?''--doesn't enjoy such prevalence in the T.V. show, and therefore cannot wholly rely on such sentiments.
Such a criticism is likely unwarranted; the songs included here are to be enjoyed by those touched by the anime--those most likely to track it down. The inclusion of 'vocal-less' versions of 'Pre-Parade' and 'Ka.Ra.Ku.Ri' add an appreciable novelty value to the C.D. 'Ka.Ra.Ku.Ri'--though perhaps unfamiliar--is performed with a boundless energy that cannot fail to impress simply by the adrenaline it elicits from the listener. (Adrenaline that will need to be in bountiful supply if the karaoke versions of the songs are to be attempted.)
Aside from the 4 tracks on the disk, the C.D. provides lyrics--in Japanese, without furigana for the kanji--for both songs, though romanised lyrics can be found online.
'Toradora!' fans will know exactly what to expect. For those willing to take a dive in without prior knowledge, "preparation" is advised.
