This is Necrophagist's debut album. Well, actually its Muhammed Suicmez's debut album, as the one man maestro did all the guitars, bass, drum programming and loops, plus the vocals you'll hear on this album.
And what a job he's done.
Ok, so the song titles are straight out of a Carcass 101 text book, but whats in a name eh? And to be fair, the lyrics are the last thing you should be listening to on this jaw dropping first offering from this German black magician.
The guitar playing is defining of a genre. You won't hear much better unless you go to a Nile album perhaps. Again the compositions are fantasrtic, giving Cryptopsy and Decapitated a run for their money in technicality and execution, respectively.
Opener 'Foul Body Autopsy', has some fantastic hooks, with a pummeling drum beat and Suicmez's slightly generic, yet ultra brutal vocals..
Catchy winners on this album also include 'Mutilate the stillborn' (Would have thought Cannibal Corpse would have thought of that first eh?) and 'Extreme Unction'.
The two extra tracks were obviously written at a different time to the main tracks. The sound and arrangements are different. More brutal even.
A great album, with some very confident guitar playing, bordering on smug self obssesiveness, but stopping short of actually blowing ones own trumpet and looking like a big-head.
For all fans of technical death metal, old and new, and your blasting, gargling death metal fan who likes it loud, heavy and fast.
