I have to say that I really hope that the music on this cd is going to be a whole lot better than the cover. To me, the artwork looks like some kind of badly made compilation of Fakes. Something far more classy and real would have been so much better rather than attempting to come up with something that portrayed Michael's legacy (which we are all well aware of anyway).
Don't get me wrong, I loved Michael Jackson and I truly hope this album will do him justice but however hard I try, I just don't like this sleeve. What do you think?
I'm a fan of Michael Jackson's music but I don't really like the album artwork either to be honest, it's not particularly effective and the crown really does just look silly. In fact, the image as a whole looks as if it has been produced by a school kid who's just copied and pasted individual images of Michael onto a theme park scene, and then found a ClipArt image of a crown and stuck it above his head. Quite tacky really. Or am I just being mean? On the plus side, IT'S MICHAEL JACKSON!
Thanks for your views everyone - I'm glad it is not just me. I have to say regarding Francisco's comments that I do havev a deep sense of forboding about this album. With only 10 tracks I fear it is going to be a cobbled together selection of half finished ideas. 'Behind The Mask' is almost certainly from the 80's because Greg Phillinganes released it as a single in or around 84. Michael was such a perfectionist and left uis with such an important legacy I will be deeply upset if this album proves to be a disaster. Let's hope I am wrong, eh?
You're certainly not the only one! I've read hundreds of similar comments on the fan websites. I actually quites like it at first glance... I am a fan of collarges and this type of "art", but on closer inspection it looks like a child did it the way it doens't blend or impress! The crown annoys me because sony weren't interested in promoting him as KoP when he did Invincible...however Now... now they push this image as far as they can to cash in. It just re-emphasises the hypocricy behind it all.
i agree that the cover isnt what it could be i think it should have been a picture along the lines of something in the book the auction perhaps and i also think they could have thought the name could have been better maybe a song from the album like 'behind the mask' but i will be buying it and i know i will love every song despite the contiversy over wether its his voice or not
The artwork on the cover was actually designed by a respected African American artist named Kadir Nelson. He recently designed a U.S. Postage stamp which is currently being sold at U.S. Post Offices nationwide.
You can see his other artwork at this website. Also, we don't know why he designed the cover art the way he did, maybe someone at Sony gave him guidelines of what they wanted on the cover.
His artwork is actually quite good. Maybe he will give an interview to the media in the future.
I am looking forward to getting this album. I live in the U.S. but enjoy shopping at the UK site for various things which are different than what is available on the U.S. site.
