I loved this book it kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop talking about it, my mom said don't tell me I'll just read it. This must have been the best book I have ever read. I love books about world war 2. I don't like to read a lot bu I finished this book in 5 days that a new record. I wish Caroline Tung Richmond could make a second. My favorite characters were Zara and Bastain ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it, just read it. 14 Oct 2014
By Breanna Heredia - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I have never written a review for a book before, so let me tell you why I did this time.

Without telling you what the book is about I will simply tell you this, it literally has everything you could want in a novel. It made me sad, frustrated, happy, and it crushed me at the right moments. It is an interesting twist of sci-fi, historical fiction, adventure, and dystopian novels, which quite frankly I was getting worn out on until this book.

I am an adult reader, and it was a quick read, but it was entertaining and we'll written. And SURPRISE, there was no love triangle but there was a lovely romance. The best part is the romance is a tiny side story and does not make the main character weak, but instead is used to make the romantic interest more admirable. To me, that was approached in the perfect way.

*passionate spoilers ahead*

Please, please, please Caroline write a sequel. I don't care if it's years down the story line. I so desperately want to read about the widerstand and Bastian and how the world settles when everything is over. I want to know if Zara and Bastian meet again. Maybe by then they no longer love each other. Maybe they have their own families. But I need know. So desperately. Please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, entertaining debut YA novel 12 Oct 2014
By Jay A. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Ms. Richmond's debut novel couldn't be more timely or entertaining. Just as Stan Lee addressed the most pressing social issues of his time through superheroes, Ms. Richmond has employed a similar method to engage readers of historical, dystopian, and fantasy genres. Her message is worthy of a broad audience, and her writing is sound, especially for a debut author. Ms. Richmond's story of a young, Asian-American heroine fighting racism, identity, social barriers, and the natural struggles while coming-of-age, she's written a novel that inspires young people everywhere to break through the obstacles that lay in their way. My niece will be getting this novel for Christmas!

My only complaint is that as of yet, there is no signal of a follow-up novel, which I would be sure to read. I plowed through this novel in a night, and liken the book to Philip Dick's "The Man in the High Castle". Whatever Ms. Richmond chooses to write next, it will be a title to watch. This novel also reinforces how powerful the YA genre remains, as it adults like myself can glean as much meaning out of these stories as any young man or woman who purchases this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down! 21 Oct 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book! Without giving anything away, I'll simply explain that I work nights at a hospital. On rare slow nights I read to help me stay awake. I started this book about 1am and it wasn't long before every interruption was a nuisance. I found myself doing every task as quickly as possible so I could rush back to reading. I was so hooked that I forwent sleeping after being up for 24 hours to read 'just one more chapter', then 'just one more'. Definitely an interesting world to step into and a fun read!
