5.0 out of 5 stars Keep getting better and better 13 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The more of Christie Craig's stories I read the more I like them. There is always a handsome hero (as there should be) and a heroine who can't decide whether to jump or not but they are all likeable characters and the interaction with friends and family are well observed and often laugh out loud funny. I haven't read a bad story yet and I lok forward eagerly to the next one. If this keeps up I may have to move to Texas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary romantic suspense 28 Oct 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is light-hearted and fun and fluffy and yet I managed to care deeply for the characters and what was happening to them. It's contemporary romance mostly with a light smattering of suspense to keep the story rolling.

There's a strong theme of people being falsely accused throughout the whole novel and that's how we meet our heroine Nikki Hunt - an impoverished artist going to meet her ex-husband Jack Leon for dinner. He's been begging her for a reconciliation since she discovered him indulging in a bit of How's Your Father on her prized antique sofa with the hired help a year ago. She's finally agreed to meet him for dinner thinking she can go back to him because she's hard up and he can probably pay her Nana's cable bill. We'll get to Nana in a bit. One look at him and she realises that she can't not even for Nana's cable - he promptly abandons her at the restaurant and saddles her with a $200 bill that she can ill afford.

Nikki manages to tell just about everyone she encounters in the next hour that she's gonna kill her ex just as said ex turns up very much murdered in the boot of her car.

Now we get to meet our hero - an ex-cop-ex-con-turned-PI Dallas O'Connor. He's with his homicide detective brother Tony when he gets the call about Jack's unfortunate demise and attends the scene with him. He instinctively thinks "the ex did it" until he notices she's rather green around the gills and goes to steady her when she promptly vomits all over first his shoes and then square in the middle of the chest. Despite this inauspicious beginning, he is very taken with her and decides to take her case as she is suspect no 1 and he specialises in people wrongly accused having done time himself for a murder he didn't commit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas sized fun! 24 Aug 2011
By Cheri F. Jetton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Ms. Craig has a highly developed talent for writing sassy, fun romances. Her romantic comedies are wonderfully entertaining, but this is absolutely her best one yet. The longer format allowed her to more fully develop the plot as well as the characters, and what characters they are! The crowd scene at the hospital, where the heroine lies bleeding as no fewer than seven people press in to see about her is not to be missed.

But get your copy quick! The Texas Department of Transportation is suing her over the title and you don't want to miss out on your copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars funny romantic suspense 24 Aug 2011
By Jody - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I sat up half the night reading and laughing. Remember the old movies with everyone talking at once? The cross dialogue in her books is fabulous.

The Don't Mess With Texas Detective Agency is manned by men named after Texas cities, Dallas, Austin, and Tyler. I predict women will be chosing up sides about a favorite like Ranger and Morelli in Evanovich's Plum series.

You'll want the sassy, confident heroines as your next door neighbors and best friends. And the heros? OMG!

I had planned to buy a couple more for Christmas presents, but I think I'd better do my shopping right now before they sell out or TXdot makes them pull it off the shelves. What's that about? It's the best publicity they've ever received.

Did someone over-react? When did Texans lose their sense of humor? Chill. Y'll should just read the book. You'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, funny, romantic 23 Aug 2011
By Mamacita - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Christie Craig's new book, DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS is a delight. As usual, she has managed to combine laugh-out-loud funny with warm-your-heart sexy.

Nikki Hunt has a bad habit of muttering to herself and this time it's gotten her into deep trouble. When several people hear her threatening to kill that no-good louse of a cheating ex-husband shortly before his body turns up in the trunk of her car, she becomes the prime suspect.

Dallas O'Connor is familiar with being falsely accused. He and his friends, Tyler and Austin, are ex-cops, sent to jail for a murder they didn't commit. Now exonerated, they've formed a PI firm named Don't Mess With Texas to help those unjustly accused.

Both Nikki and Dallas have vowed never to fall in love again. But that was before they met each other.

Add in Dallas's brother as the lead detective, a fictitious case of bedbugs, Nikki's Nana and the Ol' Timers Group as character witnesses, and a dog that sleeps in a coffin and you'll be having too much fun to put this book down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Texas Romance 3 Aug 2012
By MoranReviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After a dinner with her ex-husband, Nikki Hunt finds herself a prime suspect in his murder when his body is discovered in the trunk of her car. PI, and former cop, Dallas O'Connor, knows she's innocent, just like he was innocent and unjustly sent to prison years before. Now they both have to prove she's not their suspect to lead Detective Tony, who just happens to be none other than Dallas' brother.

This book felt a little misleading by the cover and blurb, making me think this was going to be more quirky and humorous, rather than a drama. I'm not let down at all, I'm just saying. This book did have its share of humor, though. I loved the setting and dialog. The characters were fresh and the romance believable. The secondary characters and their stories were a great add. This is book one in a series, and I can't wait for Tyler and Austin's story. I do feel the conflict resolved itself a tad too quickly, and things easily fit into place, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Craig is a new author for me, and I'll definitely look into future books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and exceptionally good writing. 24 April 2012
By QueenMom - Published on Amazon.com

I just ran across this book and Christie Craig. Admittedly, I'm only half through it but I've already gone back to Amazon and bought all of her other books. I occasionally enjoy whipping through an Evanovich or Phillips book, for some light and entertaining reading. When I picked up this book, I thought it was another volume in the same genre that I'd read quickly and then forget. Not true! Ms. Craig's writing is far and above better than most authors that I've read recently. Her dialogue and characters ring truer than any that I can remember, and I read a LOT. My undergrad degree is in English Ed, so I definitely appreciate a well-crafted story.

I won't give a synopsis, since other reviewers have already provided an outline of the story. My review will, however, touch on the fact that Ms. Craig's characters talk and act like real people, quirks and all. I even enjoyed her smooth changes in perspective among the four characters (the policeman, his brother the P.I., the policeman's separated wife and the murder suspect). You'll get two great romance stories plus a murder, a strong Grandma, heartbroken widowed Dad, and a dog...lots of things going on, with enough back-story for all of the characters to make their relationship struggles interesting.

Highly recommended if you enjoy a light-hearted romance on occasion. You'll be happy with this book!
