Product Description

When a helicopter crashes off the western coast of Garansay, there is only one survivor; a nineteen year old boy called Cameron Fleming.
He is quickly befriended by one of his rescuers, Michael Nichols. But when Michael's sister and her family come to Garansay for the summer, Imogen Croft soon discovers that the boy is not quite as innocent as he seems...
'The Only Survivor' is the gripping second novel in the Imogen and Hugh Croft Mysteries series. Imogen and Hugh become dragged into the murky world of international organised crime, finding themselves terrifyingly out of their depth. They travel to the fascinating city of Dubai in order to solve the baffling puzzle behind the Fleming's deaths. Returning to Garansay just in time to reveal the mystery's dramatic and unexpected solution.
Warning: the conclusion to this book will have you feverishly flicking back through the pages, desperately trying to pin down the clues you missed!

About the Author

Katherine Pathak lives in rural north Essex with her husband and two young children. 'The Only Survivor' is the second in her series of mystery novels featuring Imogen and Hugh Croft. She gave up teaching in order to write full time and is currently working on the third instalment. Her books combine a life-long love of History with truly ingenious plot lines and well-drawn, utterly believable characters. The lead protagonists; Imogen and Hugh Croft both develop as investigators as this beautifully written series goes on. Starting out as a relatively 'normal' professional couple, they find themselves embroiled in more and more complex and dangerous crimes. This leads them both to discover skills and bravery that they didn't previously know they possessed. Katherine Pathak's novels are detective mystery stories in their own right. However, they are also an exploration of how the two main characters- and the people closest to them- evolve and change as a result of the exciting investigations they find themselves mixed up in.

More About the Author

Katherine Pathak was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1974. Her family subsequently moved to Essex where she spent her childhood. Katherine graduated from the University of York with a degree in History in 1996. Katherine then worked in the book trade in London for several years before gaining her teaching qualification at the Institute of Education in 2000. She taught History in a number of secondary schools, deciding to take up writing full-time a year ago. 'Aoife's Chariot' is Katherine Pathak's first novel and it successfully integrates her Scottish heritage with a life-long love of History.

Katherine's second book: 'The Only Survivor' is also set on the beautiful fictional island of Garansay and is the next in the series to feature the lead characters Imogen and Hugh Croft. However, this time the protagonists travel further afield and the fascinating city of Dubai plays a central part in the fast-paced storyline of this gripping follow-up novel.

The third novel in the series: 'Lawful Death' will be ready for release in Spring 2014.

5.0 out of 5 stars very clever plot, very satisfying end 19 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Just finished this. It was a good mystery thriller, lots of clues but I still didn't work it out! However, I was very satisfied by the ending and the book wrapped up some open questions from Aoife's Chariot, which I was pleased about.

A nice, clever book with sympathetic and realistic characters and good locations. Raised quite a lot of questions about people and their environment - how much do your neighbours and even family know you and who could you turn to if you were in trouble? Very thought provoking.

You didn't need to have read the first book beforehand, but I think it helped.

I enjoyed "Aoife's Chariot" and I enjoyed "Lone Survivor" and I'll definitely read the next one.

Though this is an adult's book it's fine for teens to read it.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed Aoife's Chariot, I wasn't sure how the characters were going to progress into a longer running series. However, I shouldn't have worried as "The Only Survivor" neatly brings a new story into the lives of Imogen, Hugh and their family opening up a new mystery without any particular sense of contrivance.

In addition to new characters, this book also widens into new locations, which allows the author to show off more of her descriptive skills.

The narrative, though, is the thing that makes it a real page turner. I for one was so caught up in the story that I never saw the "twist" coming.

I liked the first book in the series a lot, but this one gripped me even more. Can't wait to read book 3, which I see is already out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvellous read that will keep you intrigued 10 Jan 2014
Katherine Pathak had me captured from the first page. A wonderful story of twists, turns and surprises. At points I was gripping the edge of my seat willing Imogen to take a step back away from digging too deeply into the life of the last survivor. However the story has the most fantastic and unexpected ending. I highly recommend reading this wonderful book.
