5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sound 19 Dec 2009
With the optical audio cable and connected to my Yamaha amp this is the best ever sound I have had from the iPod - absolutely awesome. The setup is simplicity itself. If you already have the audio setup then far better than investing in the standard dock. It also works with the touch and iPhone - the other docks I have had were only for the classic or nano and did not charge

5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem 9 Aug 2010
I was lucky enough to get hold of this wonderful thing - Onkyo NDS1 Digital iPod Dock. Unfortunately, it is unavailable anywhere except UK (and Japan, of course)- I could not find it either on the Continent or the USA. For those who wish to get direct digital signal from their iPods this is a real bargain - the nearest competitor Wadia is at least twice as expensive and has fewer outputs. The dock is very neat and pairs well with any DACs (Cambridge Audio DAC Magic in my case). Don't expect any wonders - if you listen to low bitrate files, the sound is flatter than that of CD. However, iPod sounds incomparably better than through its own analogue output and can be used instead of radio in a shuffle mode - a sort of own home radio station. Another interesting feature - the dock allows to play a particular artist or even album in a shuffle mode. The device is highly recommended for those who have separate DACs.

5.0 out of 5 stars DIGITAL OUTPUTS ONLY !! 7 Feb 2011
Despite requesting Amazon to point this out in the listing it hasn't happened. This product does not have an analogue output, you must have either a DAC (Digital to Analogue converter) or a Digital input on your amplifier to use this dock.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware 11 Mar 2012
Ostensibly a simple to use device, however this thing wiped the entire contents of my iPhone. I have an Onkyo CR515-DAB receiver with digital input. Simple connection using the optical cable to the nd-s1. After an hour of playing my music the iPhone was wiped, requiring a total restore. I tried again - same thing. How difficult can it be for a manufacturer to create two compatible devices? Onkyo's support consisted of a pigeon English reply suggesting I connect the two devices using the instructions in the manual. If only I had thought of that, there was I looking in my TV guide for instructions. Marvellous. This is going right back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of kit 28 April 2010

This is a very specialised dock - it only has a digital output, so needs to feed into a DAC or suitably equipped amp. But the sound is fantastic - using lossless files on my iPod Classic into a Linn system, it's pretty well indistinguishable from my Naim CD player.
Used it with an iTouch, it allows hi fi quality sound from digital radio stations over a network.
