Onimusha 2 is quite a complex game. Some of the environments are difficult to negotiate, there are many different items to find and use and some of the puzzles are time consuming. It is also a game that was designed to be played many times. Jubei Yagyu is the main player character but the only way to see everything the game has to offer is to play as Magoichi, Oyu, Ekei or Kotaro. This guide explains how to get the most from every character and use them to best effect in combat.

The book opens with a guide to all playable characters then moves on to the basics of play, attacking enemies, weapons, enemy profiles and a comprehensive item list. Each gift item is profiled with the goodwill level it has when trading with the four other characters. Every other page has a small version of the scenario map at the top. This shows you how far in the game you are and where the other characters fit into the story line. There are many puzzles in the game and the walkthrough shows the player how best to deal with them. Some of the bosses are tough and again, advice is given on how to deal with them. The two phantom realms are also detailed.

The back of the book has maps of every environment and a secrets section. There are many different game modes to unlock and a couple of unlockable costumes. The Rekka-Ken is the most powerful sword in the game and can be aquired by completing level 20 of the purple phantom realm. Admittedly, I would not have had the patience to complete the game without this guide. For players of Onimusha 2 who want to get the most from the game this book is probably essential.

HASH(0x9f47a378) out of 5 stars Standard Prima Guide 30 Jan. 2010

Over all it's a good strategy guide, but it's lacking a few things and seems a bit sloppy. For one thing, they have the shoulder button commands labeled improperly- obviously either an editing error or they used a different version of the game and translated. This is pretty standard Prima form from what I have seen. It does have a fairly comprehensive "Gifting Guide" section; However it lacks a critical statistic: the amount of souls required for equipment upgrades for the various difficulty levels.

I usually go with Brady Games strategy guides because they include such things and carefully review to minimize typos. I went with Prima merely because I was on such a short budget and it was a very good price. If you're going to spend the money, go with Brady.
