Very pleased with this shackle lock. For the price it is very good quality-I have been shopping around and found shackle locks that are double the price but not as good quality.
On the downside is its weight but I have not found this a problem when attached to my bike. I am not sure how long the mounting bracket will last concidering this.
Just a few things to update the amazon listing-the shackle is 16.88mm ultra hardened steel, it is the Brute STD 5001 model and the picture is of an older model(I have added a second picture of the STD 5001 lock)

This is an excellent, strong lock for the price, you would have to pay somewhere in the region of £60 to get something equivalent from the other leading brands.

I own a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit which is no doubt a stronger lock as its 18mm thick compared to the Onguard Brute which is 16mm thick, however the Onguard lock is £40 cheaper and comes with a bracket which makes it easy to carry 2kg of solid steel around.

I have heard the mounting bracket can be easily broken which doesn't surprise me as the lock weighs about 2kg, which is probably why Kryptonite don't provide one for their Fahgettaboudit lock as it also weighs 2kg. This means you have to be cautious when deciding where to place your bracket, I find having the bracket placed at the top tube of your bike with the lock hanging under it, in a D position means there's less stress on the bracket.

I've also read about problems concerning their keys, but this is a common problem with all bike locks that use the same locking mechanism (My Masterlock chain and Kryptonite locks use the same mechanism), if you don't push the key all the way in and then decide to turn it, it will damage the key and/or the lock, so be warned, most people are smart enough and its not really a problem though.

I've had a read through various bike forums and website and it seems this particular lock is practically impossible to break unless your local bike thief happens to carry an angle grinder everywhere he goes (unlikely).

If you don't want to spend more than £50 on a lock, or simply don't need to as your bike is worth less than £600, then get this Onguard Brute, you won't be disappointed. If you can afford to spend more than £50 then get either the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit or the Kryptonite New York 3000.

In short, not a very good experience with the Onguard Brute Shackle Lock.
The Onguard Brute Shackle Lock barrel jammed, from what I can imagine was from outdoor corrosion, within 2 months of purchasing it from new - even after following recommendation on maintenance. I barely managed to get my bike unlocked before concluding the locking mechanism was busted and not worth risking another jam.
The unit is also heavy.
I tried contacting the manufacturers UK distributor - I didn't get a response, so I've sent it back, and buying another manufacturers product.

Lock looks solid build. Small movement of parts (when locked), obviously due to tolerances between locking bars and shackle cutout.
Soft plastic (to protect bike from scratches) has got some deep cuts only after a few weeks of use; but this due to the fact that I was locking the bike on the rear wheel and had to get around different parts (chain, V-brakes etc.).
