It doesn't hit you very hard at first (except those brilliant drums, which are unlike anything I've ever heard on a Hip-Hop album before), but after three or four listens all the details and intricacies start to filter through and it just all sounds so perfect. 'Predormitum' is an excellent way to open the album. The piano sample and keyboard notes that come in towards the end are fantastic. 'Darkness' is a particuarly outstanding track, with its drifting female vocals and great lyrics that have a really menacing feel to them:

'Way under in slumber is my true self shown?
a glass house cracked from a few stones thrown
pain in the windows of a once happy home
I'm a Chesire Cat laughin' at the caged birds' song
a caterpillar shroomin usin' fumes from my bong
to cloud a land wondering what fuels what is wrong...'

Kno is on point with the instrumentals as always, although I think the term 'interlude' is probably inappropriate here. 'Phantasmata' and 'So as Not to Wake You' are really useful additions, unlike the instrumentals on 'A Piece of Strange' which only really serve as little breaks between the main feature songs (except 'Remember Me', which is obviously amazing).

Act I and Act II are standouts for their interesting lyrical concepts, before things get really psychadelic on 'Get Ignorant' and 'Shattered Dreams' with some really quirky sounding samples. ('Get Ignorant' also samples 'Atom' by Cannibal Ox, which is surely worth an extra star in itself.) 'Stars Shine Brightest' is a worthy lead single. I challenge anyone to play it out loud on a good sound system and not have their mind blown. It sounds like comets falling to earth. Awesome.

The reason I choose this ratin was for how consistant this album is from start to finish the songs were great at times it felt as if every song just strung together like a musical production wise but hard to put into actual words you would have to listen to maybe get what I mean. I would recommend this to any hip hop fan who likes good lyricism and good beats

Deeply moving and truly creative. This album has set the benchmark for me in terms innovative production that is perfectly complemented by the fluid and potent lyrical content and delivery. I have been a huge Cunninlynguists fan since Will Rap for Food, but in my opinion, Oneirology is a masterpiece from start to finish, and topping this with their next project will be some feat!

I actually discovered this album by accident on Spotify, I recognised the name of the group from way back when and listening to what I now know as the Dirty Acres album at a friends house years ago.

I had a listen through and like the music, incredibly well written instrumentals all the way through, they let the album roll into each song almost seamlessly, each song with its own unique sound that succeeds the previous one so well.

Once you get over how well written the music is, you can start to appreciate the lyrics themselves, what is important to note is how much these guys throw into their writing, sublimely appropriation of current affairs, (in my opinion) most notable on the track "Get Ignorant".

Since hearing this album I have gone on to get the rest of the discography, Oneirology is certainly in my top 2, only with Dirty Acres potentially fighting it for the throne.

YouTube: Enemies with Benefits. (featuring a blinding segment from Tonedeff.)

Buy?: Of course, a great trio of artists who deserve some wider recognition.
