I own dozens of books quilting, fiber arts, and fabric manipulation, but this is the first one I have ever felt compelled to write a review on. The concept is simple but the effect the Maxine Rosenthal creates with this technique is nothing short of stunning. If you have a stash of large print materials you couldn't resist but lack ideas on how to use well, ponder no further. My bet is that the result will more striking than the original fabric, and even more exciting as a result. The outcomes are not limited to large prints, which makes it a very versatile technique.
My only complaint is that I would have happily looked at another dozen quilts for further inspiration. Really a beautiful and inspiring book. Well done, Maxine!

I have a small collection of books about patchwork and quilting, but none have made me go 'WOW' quite like this one! I have a quilt under way (not from this book) and can't wait to get to the point when I'm ready to start another - and it will definitely be one of these - I am scouring the shops (both actual and virtual) for THE fabric to use. The images are so inspiring, so many fabrics I would class as 'unusable' or 'horrid' turned into amazing, exciting, awe inspiring quilts!
The information on choosing fabric and how much fabric to purchase is spot on, and very easy to understand and the instructions for making the quilt seem to be precise and accurate, certainly I understood the process from just one reading.
Going to be ordering 'encore' soon, and can't wait for the hollow cube book which is out soon.

Amazing what you can do with one fabric . .

The author has done a fantastic job of showing what you can do with one fabric and make it different from you basic "stack and slash" variety of quilts. Lots of examples and clear directions should allow both the novice and experience quilter to have a wonderful time making these quilts. I especially like the examples that show the original fabric! It's amazing how much her colorwash technique of the blocks makes the basic fabric evolve into something else completely!
One of the few quilting books I've read from cover to cover! Can't wait to try different fabrics to create quilts from subtle and mushy to bold and dramatic! Already looking at the fabric in the quilt shops with a whole new mind set!

I bought this book 3 weeks ago and I have been so pleased with it. At first, you might think this is just an extension of Stack 'N Whack, but it isn't. The only similarity is the pinning technique which is essentially the same. The differences are in what Maxine Rosenthal does with the blocks that result and in the types of fabrics she uses. I'm about to complete my first quilt from this book and I already have others planned. I highly recommend it.

Maxine's technique intrigued me so I ordered the book. I've read it again and again. When I visit a fabric store now, I look at fabric in a whole different way. Now that I've finally found the "perfect" fabric after weeks of looking, I can hardly wait to start. I highly recommend this book if you want to try something different.
